Comedian and actor Kevin Hart was taken to the hospital following a car accident on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019. Hart suffered major back injuries.
Hart was being driven in his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda on Mulholland Highway at the time of the accident, according to California Highway Patrol.
The driver was Jared Black. He lost control of the wheel and the car tumbled into an embankment.
Black also sustained major back injuries. A third passenger, Black’s fiancé Rebecca Broxterman, was unharmed in the accident.
There was a fourth passenger, but he/she has not been named.
The accident occurred just after midnight.
It was determined that Black was not under the influence when the crash occurred.
The comedian was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Centre. Black, however, was taken to a different hospital.
The actor is known for his roles in movies such as “Ride Along” and “The Secret Life of Pets.”
Hart was supposed to host this year’s Oscars, but he pulled out of the event following a controversy over old homophobic tweets.
The 40-year-old stated that he did not want to be a distraction and that he was “sorry he had hurt people.”
The Oscars went ahead without a host.
There were some false reports that stated Hart permanently injured his vocal cords and was paralyzed in the accident. The false story was published by LFR Solutions on Sept. 2. It was titled, “Kevin Hart Paralyzed After Car Accident, Permanently Injures Vocal Cords.”
The comedian did suffer serious back injuries; however, the International Business Times did report that he is able to walk. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery, but they are running tests to be sure he does not require surgery.
