Last weekend, multiple shootings in Chicago resulted in two dead and 20 injured. Two of the wounded victims were under the age of 19, and three were over 75 years of age.

Sunday Standoff

On Sunday, one situation required a SWAT team at the scene. At 1:15 p.m., a man barricaded himself inside an apartment on the Southwest Side of Chicago near the Ford City Mall after shooting a woman in the 4200 block of West Ford City Drive. The unidentified woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. She is reportedly in critical condition.

The shooters fired at police when they arrived, however, they did not shoot back. Police wanted the man to surrender. He refused. It was determined that he was holding a 78-year-old man hostage inside the apartment. The shooter fired on his hostage.

After a two-hour standoff, SWAT went into the barricaded apartment and shot the suspect. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his wounds.

Friday Shooting Victims

On Friday, just before midnight, a 19-year-old woman was shot in the North Austin neighborhood. The woman was inside the building at the 5200 block of West North Avenue. Shots were fired from the sidewalk. She suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and a friend drove her to West Suburban Hospital. She is in fair condition.

There was a shootout in Pilsen that wounded three men; one is in critical condition. The victims exchanged gunfire with offenders in a red pick-up truck at 11:28 p.m. on the 900 block of West Cullerton.

A 33-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the right arm, and a 34-year-old man was shot in the buttocks – both walked into Stroger Hospital in fair condition. A 47-year-old man was also taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition by the Chicago Fire Department. He had gunshot wounds to his body.

After an argument in Logan Square, a 22-year-old man was shot. The victim was walking on the sidewalk on the 2100 block of North Bingham at 11:30 p.m. He was reportedly shot by two suspects in the chest. He was taken to a local hospital where the young man was pronounced dead.

Saturday Shootings

Early Saturday morning, a woman, 26, was shot while driving in the city’s South Austin neighborhood.

At1:35 a.m., the woman was driving northbound on the 900 block of South Austin Boulevard. An offender in a red sedan fired shots. The victim was transported by the CFD to Loyola in critical condition. The woman had gunshot wounds to the back.

An 80-year-old man was in a parked vehicle in the 5200 block of South Marshfield Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood at 3 p.m. when he was shot in the chest by an unknown suspect. He is in critical condition. According to the Chicago Police Department,  he was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

The Chicago Police Department reported nine more shootings between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.

Overall, the violent crime rate in Chicago has decreased so far in 2022 despite these shootings.
