With the pandemic having gone on for months now, and the Coronavirus being known since March, to many the Coronavirus is a very serious threat. However, somethings that many scientists and doctors didn’t expect, was how many people believe that Covid-19 is a government hoax. Even know, hoards of people flock to beaches in Florida and refuse to acknowledge to massive risk at stake.
Across the U.S. the main cause of Coronavirus spread is the gathering of people. Thus, social distancing was put into effect. Although, some refused to stay in their homes or wear a mask, claiming it was their constitutional right. This is true, the government cannot force you to wear a mask or stay at home to stop the spread. Though this misses the point, the reason the government asks you to wear a mask and stay home is to protect those who cannot defend themselves from the virus. Seniors, whose immune systems are weaker are at much greater risk, and by wearing a mask and staying home, their risk of death decreases.
In San Antonio, a man’s last words were “I think I made a mistake, I thought this was a hoax, but it’s not.” This man had attended a “COVID Party,” which is a party thrown by someone who was diagnosed with the disease in an attempt to see if other guests become infected. After this incident, the gravity of Covid-19 became very real to all those in attendance.
There are a few main points that those who refuse to wear masks give. A recurring theme is that they do not like to be controlled by the government. Although, just their ability to chose not to wear a mask shows the government’s lack of control over them. Additionally, if someone compies with the government asking them to do something, that is not being controlled by the government. Another main point against wearing a mask is that it becomes difficult to breathe. This has been proven time and time again to be false by using a pulse oximeter to show no change in the amount of oxygen in the bloodstream with and without a mask.
Covid-19 to some is considered a government hoax. Although there a few logical reasons that don’t make sense. Firstly it is in the government’s best interests to allow people to go outside and spend money, creating a healthy economy. To hurt its own economy for the sake of controlling people and making them stay inside is absurd. Covid-19 is most certainly not a government hoax and the government would have no motivation to pull one like this.
Across the United States, it is surprising how many people do not take Covid-19 seriously. That there are people who beg other to stay inside and wear a mask, not for their own sake, but for those who cannot fight this disease. It is incredibly astonishing that people won’t wear a mask out of sheer inconvenience when they could be the indirect cause of someone’s death. To battle, a global enemy like Covid-19 nations must stand together and all agree to do what is necessary so no one else has to die, but until that happens it seems that “quarantine” will be the new normal.
