A second season of the breakout series, “Squid Game,” is in the works, says its creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk. However, the exact details are still being worked out.
Netflix’s most successful original program, “Squid Game,” has reached about 110 million people worldwide. The series is set to bring in an estimated $900 million in value for the company.
Although Netflix has not officially announced a follow-up season to “Squid Game,” given the series’ success, it will be a surprise if Netflix decides not to pursue more seasons ultimately. However, Hwang told reporters at an event in Los Angeles that “we are in the talks for Season 2.”
So far, he has a basic layout of the season. He stated another season is most likely coming but was not sure when. He described the talks between him and the company as being in “brainstorming stages.”
Elitists and the People

“Squid Game” touched audiences around the globe with its tales of economic hardship through the medium of games played by children. The catch is that these games do not end after 30 minutes of play.
Instead, the recurring outcome is the contestants screaming and falling to their deaths. It is another piece of media exploring class warfare that has been released in recent years. The show follows other movies like “The Hunt” (2020) and “Ready or Not” (2019).
Some critics compare it to “Parasite,” which was another South Korean export that captivated audiences, winning Best Picture at the 92nd Academy Awards. However, it also explored growing class divisions leading to deadly outcomes.
Hwang did confirm that Lee Jung-jae will reprise his role as the main character, Seong Gi-hun. He is also interested in having a writers room and directors other than himself involved with the next season’s production. The show’s creator said his plans for a new season were not well thought out yet, and he “would certainly not do it alone.”
“Squid Game” was knocked out of the top spot on the Netflix charts, with Season 3 of “You” taking the crown for a week, only to be dethroned by Season 5 of “Big Mouth” as of this Monday.
