As Elon Musk continues to move forward with the $44 billion purchase of Twitter, leadership has experienced some changes. Current CEO Parag Agrawal fired Kayvon Beykpour and Bruce Falck from their positions. Beykpour was Twitter’s consumer product leader and Falck was the general manager of revenue and head of product for the social media platform’s business side.
The former consumer product leader said Agrawal wanted to take the team in a new direction. He has appointed Jay Sullivan as the new head of both consumer product and revenue. In an email to employees, Agrawal confirmed the changing of the guard and said no layoffs were planned at this time. However, Twitter is in a hiring freeze and is backing off on spending.
The email explains the social media platform had plans. In 2020, the decision was made to invest aggressively to deliver big growth in audience and revenue, but Twitter failed to reach those goals. The company did not even reach intermediate milestones that would give Agrawal the confidence necessary to continue moving forward with that plan.
Over the past several years, Beykpour led the creative development of the site’s biggest design changes and features. He co-founded Periscope which Twitter took over in 2015. Twitter enveloped the live streaming company fully in 2018, and Beykpour’s role changed with the company. Periscope was shut down in 2021.
Falck thanked the engineers that worked with him in a tweet. “When all is said and done, it’s the work that matters: We upgraded our ad serving, prediction, analytics, attribution, billing, API, and many more systems, substantially improving our reliability and scalability.”
Both Falck and Beykpour both showed growth and production with the social media platform.
