Jeremy Renner Receives Love From Fans After Tragic Snowplow Accident

News of Jeremy Renner’s clash with fate has left fans at a standstill for the past few days. Many were worried about his physical state after being run over by a snowplow on New Year’s. Now, his official response to the incident has brought relief to his supporters — and made others question his acting roles in the future.

The Incident

The sheriff in the Marvel actor’s neighborhood of Washoe County gave a press conference on Tuesday to run through the investigation. Renner was using the 14,330-pound snowplow to free his family member’s vehicle from the snow, according to Sheriff Darin Balaam. The sheriff explained:

After successfully towing his vehicle from its stuck location, Mr. Renner got out of his Piston Bully to speak to his family member. At this point, it was observed that the Piston Bully started to roll.

In an attempt to stop the vehicle from moving further, Renner ended up beneath the vehicle and got run over. The 51-year-old was not thought to have been “in any way impaired” and there is no suspicion of criminal activity. Page Six noted that he was immediately airlifted to a hospital and was in “critical but stable” condition over the holiday weekend.

There was snow in many areas of western Nevada at the time of the accident. In fact, the Reno area received 6 to 12 inches of snow between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, according to the National Weather Service.

This explains the actor’s recent photos and videos of himself in snowy environments on his verified social media sites. He also posted an Instagram video two weeks ago of him running what we now know as a Pistenbully snow groomer:

Hopeful Wishes

Renner’s family and friends experienced a multitude of emotions when they learned of the tragedy. When they discovered that he had contributed to such a horrific event, they were horrified and worried. Despite their concerns, they expressed their support for him when they found out he had not sustained any serious wounds. A spokesperson for the actor gave a statement to CNN on Monday saying:

Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families. They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.

Fans of the Oscar nominee went to Twitter to show their support with the hashtag “#PrayersForJeremyRenner”:

Two surgeries, so far. Extensive injuries to multiple parts of his body. But, they say he's conscious and talking. I'm praying that #JeremyRenner is able to make a full recovery. #PrayersForJeremyRenner ???? #JeremyRennerAccident pic.twitter.com/Do9DOUOX12

Many of Renner’s co-stars from the Marvel Avengers franchise also showed love through social media. The Hawkeye actor received love on social media from celebrities such as Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt. Mark Ruffalo wrote on his Instagram Story:

Prayers up for our brother @jeremyrenner on a full and speedy recovery. Please send healing goodness his way.

Hailee Steinfield, the co-star of the Disney+ show “Hawkeye”, also commented on her Instagram Story for her castmate:

Come on partner!!! Thank God you’re healing. We are sending you love and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Jeremy’s Response

After being in the ICU for a few days, Jeremy himself has been responding to all the love on his social media. He took to his Instagram on Wednesday to post a hospital bed selfie with the caption reading:

Thank you all for your kind words. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.

His publicist, Samantha Mast, also kept the press at bay with news of Renner’s progress. She made a statement Tuesday evening that read:

Jeremy is making positive progress and is awake, talking and in good spirits. He remains in ICU in critical but stable condition. He is overwhelmed by the showing of love and support. The family asks for your continued thoughts while he heals with his close loved ones.

An earlier statement from a spokeswoman for Renner to CNN stated that the actor had “blunt chest damage and orthopedic problems.” According to a source close to the star, the actor has already undergone two surgeries for the injuries. The Arrival actor’s family seems to be taking good care of the actor while he’s in the hospital; he posted this on Twitter yesterday:

A “not no great” ICU DAY, turned to amazing spa day with my sis and mama❤️. Thank you sooooo much pic.twitter.com/pvu1aWeEXY
