Gun Violence is Affecting the Community
It is not a surprise for the community of Little Village to go through once again another victim of gun violence in this community. It is really unfortunate that this is happening again and people are just so used to this. This has been an issue that has not been addressed by the government and there is still no gun control.
Even though people in Little Village are so used to these types of situations; it is still impactful and devastating for these victims’ close people and for the people that care about this issue of gun violence in the community.
The American Dream Turns Into a Nightmare
Gun violence is really becoming a huge issue. It is not just affecting the community of Little Village but is affecting the entire nation. A lot of people with mental issues or even consciously aware people are taking advantage of guns. For instance, they use them to terminate others’ lives unfairly or for no apparent reason. What hurts the community more is that these people are murdering those that are innocent. Meaning, those that have nothing to do with the people that are murdering.
Furthermore, this has become the reality of Little Village and there has to be something done about this. It is sad that a lot of people come to the United States for the American Dream. They come to look for a better future and better opportunities. Ultimately, for many, this dream is over by the hands of people that are not mentally stable when they have a gun under their power. This was the case of the most recent Guatemalan victim in Little Village that had just migrated from Guatemala just four months ago back in October 2022.
Another Victim of Gun Violence
Recently, a lot of people from Guatemala have been migrating from their country to also look for a better future. It is devastating that this victim’s dream was over too soon like many other countless people in the community. This new victim’s name was Reina Cristina Ical Seb. She was only a 20-year-old Guatemalan woman. She came to this country to look for a better future and to look for the American Dream like many people do when they come from other countries.
Many people have the concept that the United States is a country of opportunities and to make dreams become a reality. The actual reality many people discover when they step into this country is that instead of being the American Dream it gives a complete turn and it turns into the American Nightmare for many being fatal.
What Happened To the Guatemalan Victim
Cristina’s death definitely made an impact on the community of Little Village just like any other innocent victim that there has been in this area. Once her family back in Guatemala heard about a woman murdered in an alley, they knew that it was her.
A lot of activists in the Little Village spoke out about this issue and everyone in the community wants to find the murderer that ended her life. This person decided to commit the crime against this poor innocent Guatemalan woman and flee the scene. That is why activists are advocating for Cristina’s justice and finding out who did this horrible crime.

She was shot in the head, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. This incident occurred when she was on her way home from work on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023. She was later pronounced dead at 2:55 a.m. at the scene.
The Reaction Of The Community
Some neighbors found her in the disturbing scene and called 911 immediately. The community member Enriquez stated, “They are fleeing from violence in their country, and they come and find this violence in Chicago.” This impactful statement expresses how the United States really is. People want to leave the worst and when they get to a new place it gets even worse.
