Jack Harlow stars in a remake of the 1992 classic, “White Men Can’t Jump.” Many fans of the original starring Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson, and Rosie Perez, are skeptical the remake will be good.
Previously, Snipes and Harrelson worked together in the 1986 film “Wildcats.” Their time performing for the film created a good friendship. This good ribbing rapport shines through as their characters develop in “White Men Can’t Jump.”
Throughout the film, Harrelson and Snipes bicker, joke, and trash talk through hustling street basketball games. The pair capitalize on people’s assumptions that Harrelson’s character would be a poor ball player due to him being white. Additionally, Perez played Harrelson’s brilliant and exasperated girlfriend, Gloria.
‘White Men Can’t Jump’ Remake
The remake is directed by Calmatic. There is a new hip-hop beat, and the gameplay is a bit smoother.
Sinqua Walls plays Kamal, who once had a promising basketball career. However, an anger-filled incident put a stop to whatever prospects he may have had. Now he has a job delivering packages, which is often filled with ridicule from his various customers. The only one who seems to lovingly support him is his girlfriend, Imani, played by Teyana Taylor.
Later, Harlow’s character, Jeremy, enters the gym. His whole entrance is loud, and he is wearing bright colors. One character refers to him as a Sierra Mist can.
Walls’ friend Speedy, played by Vince Staples, noticed Harlow. He asked Walls, “They let yoga instructors into the gym now?” What they didn’t know is that Harlow’s character was a former player at NCAA powerhouse Gonzaga. However, knee pain has hobbled him some. The only reason he was there was to try to hustle basketball games and sell detox drinks.
20th Century Studios
Harlow’s character was almost as fun-ribbed as Harrelson’s. However, he is more “sensitive.” “White Men Can’t Jump” remake is a 20th Century Studios release and is rated R. It does have some drug material and pervasive language. The movie’s run time is 101 minutes.
