Downtown Crime
Monday, May 22 brought in some welcome and refreshing warm weather after days of chilly temperatures. This means summer is on the way and Chicagoans are certainly looking forward to it. Unfortunately, Chicago summers are also synonymous with a rise in crimes and warm unpredictable weather. Studies done show year after year that temperatures rise meanwhile crimes in downtown Chicago rise too.
Temperatures were at a low of 52 and rose significantly to a high of 82.
Although as the night rolled in the temperatures dropped, but people ventured out. People took that as an opportunity to take advantage of others. There were an unfortunate series of events that can only make us wonder what’s in store for the later months.
Crimes All Over
At about 11:30 p.m. on Clark and Illinois Street, there were reports of a man with a gun chasing six people.
Around 11:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the corner of South Wabash and East Balbo Avenue. Later reports of a man with a gun in a Black Toyota Camry near the scene of an unconfirmed incident shortly before.
At about the same time, at 1301 North Astor Street, a 911 caller reported that there were five suspects attempting to rob a Lyft driver in a Toyota Prius.
Someone even got creative around 9 p.m. at 355 South Wacker Drive. They received multiple reports received of a man throwing rocks at people they passed by.
This has been a hectic start to what can be expected to be a warm summer. Temperatures next week are expected to reach a high of 87. Chicagoans are looking forward to the summer events available that the warm weather allows. Many are not looking forward to what may come with it. Nevertheless, these crimes unfortunately may only be the tip of the iceberg.
As Chicagoans routinely prepare for the warm weather, let’s hope we don’t have to worry about crimes downtown and prepare for the violence too.
