June 8, 2023 marks the first time a prior president has been indicted on federal charges for the second time. Donald Trump is now indicted on 7 charges. These charges include one under the Espionage Act, obstruction of justice, conspiracy, false statements, and more.
This investigation of the former president has been conducted since 2021 after him leaving the White House. Furthermore, during this time period, the special counsel may have experienced obstruction with the investigation and many more interferences.
“The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax,” Trump wrote. In addition to this, Donald’s attorneys received the summons via email. This email only listed the charges, and they were not able to see the indictments.
Trumps New Cycle
This indictment will be the second time the former president is in trouble with the law this year. Earlier in April, Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business. These earlier chargers were made in Manhattan. Meanwhile, the current indictments are being handled in Miami.
With goals of running again in 2024, it is not looking good for Trump. At this rate, he will be facing charges in two different jurisdictions while the 2024 election is underway. This doesn’t include the two lasting investigations that will be happening as well.
In response to his situation, Trump has dropped a 4-minute video. In this video, he is maintaining that he is innocent and that those who pressed charges are weaponizing their power. Additionally, he is stating they are using this to ruin his election, but it will not stop him from running in 2024.
A History of Being Let Off
This is not Donald Trump’s first run-in with the law. During his presidency, he was impeached twice. He was let off by avoiding charges from the Senate both times. Also, he has been able to settle other civil lawsuits in a private manner.

These incidents are outside of all the allegations and conspiracies people place on him. He was also investigated in the capital riot that happened on January 6 and an attempted overthrow of the 2020 election.
Loyal Supporters
While there is obviously a big party opposing the former president, he still has his loyal supporters behind him. Following these charges, a handful of people have come to Trump’s defense on social media.
Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker, took to Twitter to say that it was “a dark day for the United States of America.” The California Republic continued by saying, “It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades…”
House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, agreed with McCarthy by tweeting, “Sad day for America. God Bless President Trump,”
House GOP conference chairwoman Elise Stefanik, a New York Republican, also stepped in to say, “The radical Far Left will stop at nothing to interfere with the 2024 election in order to prop up the catastrophic presidency and desperate campaign of Joe Biden.”
While these supporters are very bold with their statements, those close to Trump express their worries over the indictments, but more or less are still in support of him.
Moving Forward
These situations are good examples to the public that no one is above the law. While some people take the attention from these indictments as ways to boost Trump’s campaign, others see this as a problem. Looking at short-term effects, this gives the former president enough attention to advertise himself and capitalize off of the situation. But these charges could have negative effects in the long run and after the 2024 elections.
Also, people are noting the other Republicans running for office in the elections next year. The public is also noting the Republicans who may be anti-Trump. Some think the heavy Republican representation is a reason for Trump to fall out of the election. This is also vice versa for the runner-ups, but it would be better to give those with good reputations a chance. Whereas, we know the former president doesn’t have a good reputation. This would make for a more fair election for both political parties.
