Open Air Drug Markets in Humboldt Park, Chicago
It is not very rare to hear about drugs being passed around in the City of Chicago. However, these drug meet-ups are usually discreet, in places where the Chicago Police would not think of looking. Moreover, there have been many people that have been implementing what is called “Open Air Drug Markets.” Drug markets can be seen all over New York, with absolutely no repercussions.
However, in Chicago, it is a completely different story, and the people that hold these drug markets can certainly be facing time in prison. Additionally, this sentence certainly did not scare 13 men, who have been apprehended by the police for doing something of this nature.
13 Men Apprehended by Police for Open-Air Drug Markets
The last thing that many citizens of Chicago would expect is for drug dealers to be completely open about what they do. “Thirteen Chicago men are charged under federal indictment, accused of running an open-air drug market on the city’s Northwest Side,” according to Yahoo! News. Not only are they being charged for open air drug markets in Humboldt Park, they are being federally prosecuted, and could therefore get a lot of time behind bars.
“Ten of the men appeared in court at the Dirksen Federal Building Wednesday to hear the charges against them. One man was not in court because he is apparently in custody in Cook County. Two other defendants did not appear in court and no explanation was provided,” according to ABC 7 News. Therefore, these men will certainly be receiving pretty tough sentences, although nothing has been said just yet.
The Future of Chicago Regarding Drugs
Drugs have certainly been a widespread issue within the City of Chicago. However, it is unheard of that open air drug markets would actually be within Chicago, as that is something normally seen in New York, or in places where certain drugs are legal. Within the near future, the sentences of each of these men will be said, and it may unsurprisingly be a large sentence.
