A 15-year-old student from a Little Village high school has accused security guard Romell Campoverde of sexual assault. Court records the 43-year-old met the victim at Farragut Career Academy High School during her freshman year.
Before the Rape
During her sophomore year, she shared her Snapchat username with Campoverde and the two began communicating. Eventually, the pair agreed to meet up outside of the school grounds. Several times, Campoverde took the minor to the mall. There he purchased her footwear, gave her $40 for her hair, and supplied her with alcohol.
Officials stated the Little Village guard and the student made plans to meet on June 25. However, this time man purchased her alcohol and McDonald’s. Not long after which, the teenager became very intoxicated.
Next, Campoverde drove the teen around in his vehicle. During this, he began his advances on the 15-year-old — kissing her. Then, he started to touch her inappropriately touching the student before taking her to an RV parked near Bue Island and 26th Street.
Assaulting a Minor
Once there, the Little Village guard upped his sexual advances. As the man began to sexually assault the teenage student, she asked him to stop. Campoverde ignored her pleas and continued his assault on the Little Village student.
As she was being assaulted, two of her press-on nails popped off.
The following day, the 15-year-old told an afterschool employee what transpired between her and the Little Village security guard. After she told her story, she was taken to the hospital where they conducted some tests. Those results are currently pending.
Officials issued a search warrant for the Litte Village Guard’s RV, During the investigation, officers recovered two of the 15-year-olds press-on nails. They also discovered a blanket and some towels with what appeared to be blood stains.
A Letter to the Parents
On July 7, school officials sent a letter to parents and families of their schools. In the letter, they stated that Campoverde has been removed from Farragut Career Academy High School. The situation is being investigated by the Office of the Inspector General. Campoverde’s employment with the school rest on what the outcome of that investigation reveals.
Reassuringly the school’s principal added, “Please know that we are taking this situation seriously, and we remain committed to providing your children with a safe, positive learning environment where they can reach their full potential.”
Campoverde was given a $100,000 bond. Additionally, the court ordered him not to contact the victim, her family, or anyone under the age of 18. His next court date is scheduled for August 8.
