Many state officials have been calling on the Biden administration to fix the “broken Immigration System” that is sweeping the nation. Migrants have been pouring into cities and states with no where for them to go leaving these areas struggling to help them. More often than not, these individuals are forced to live on the streets. The migrant crisis has hit many major cities and states, leaving officials no other choice than to declare an emergency over the surge of those seeking refuge.
Chicago Alderman Presses Biden to do More
Alderman Ray Lopez has joined the outcry over the migrant crisis seemingly being ignored by President Biden and his administration. When the president boasted about his trillion dollar-plus Infrastructure and Jobs Act at a plant that builds charging stations for electric vehicles, Lopez pressed him about the “broken immigration system.”
Taxpayers have been largely funding the influx of asylum seekers being bused across the nation. Lopez, like many others, want to know what Biden and his administration is going to do to alleviate the struggles being placed onto the shoulders of citizens and those seeking refuge.
Quit talking about Bidenomics. Quit talking about all the great things you supposedly did for this state because I’m looking at 12,000 mouths to feed in my city alone that they have completely forgotten about!
Local and States Have Spent Millions
So far the city of Chicago has already spent around “$120 to $150 million dollars,” added Lopez. He is expecting the rest of the year to reach around that same number. Additionally, he stated they migrant crisis through-line extends from Washington to Springfield, to Chicago. That doesn’t include the areas northeast and west that are struggling to keep up with the growing number of asylum seekers.
New York is on course to spending $12 billion over the next three years to help manage the migrant crisis there. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has tried to weaken the strict laws against the asylum seekers working. Additionally, he stated that the United States is upholding laws that are “anti-American”
What is more anti-American than not allowing someone to work? What is more anti-American than that? So what is wrong with them having the right to work? There’s no reason the national government is not staying true to the basic principle of the American experience to allow you to the right to work. It is unacceptable. It’s unacceptable that they cannot work.
‘This Is a National Problem’
Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso has joined the growing voices of concern. Earlier this month, Reynoso pointed out it is the federal government’s responsibility to address the migrant crisis.
These areas are welcoming in the asylum seekers and doing the best that they can with what resources they can. However, if the U.S. government continues to stay neutral in this growing demand, these areas will have to utilize funds meant for other aspects to help aid the migrant crisis. For example, they may need to take money away from street repairs, educational, health and wellness, etc.
Additionally, the officials calling out for help from Biden and his administration are wanting people to know this does not mean they are going to turn their backs on anyone. They will continue to do all they can and welcome those in need but they need help.
