Intro to Urbex
Urban exploring, also known as “urbex” is the practice of exploring urban areas that are off-limits to the public. It is a popular practice and it provides a different experience for each person interested in discovering lost places.
Urban exploring can involve many different places. Such as abandoned hospitals, factories, and other buildings. These are the most famous destinations for an urban explorer. These places are often full of interesting stories and objects while having a unique atmosphere and character.
Urban explorers also often visit underground tunnels and sewers.

Accidents while urbexing
On Sunday, September 24, a 15-year-old is in the hospital suffering broken bones after falling through the northwest dome in West Perth. Falling over 10 meters the teen fractured both her wrists and her pelvis.
The girl was one of three teens who climbed the building. While attempting to scale the building she fell through a shallow spotlight. Firefighters arrived and helped the other two while the girl was taken in an ambulance.
Another significant accident happened in 2018. While six stories in the sky, a Sydney teen loses her grip on a fence and falls. Luckily her fall was interrupted by scaffolding, causing her to survive the fall with a broken back. She now advises teens to refrain from urban exploring.
Proper preparation
When practicing urban exploring safety should always be the top priority. Urban explorers should always use caution when attempting to and entering abandoned buildings, as they could be dangerous. Urbexers should also be aware of the law, and remember to respect the property of others.
Preparation is also important for a successful exploration. Explorers should be sure to bring a map of the area, a flashlight, and food if needed. Also, any other items that might be needed. It is also important as an explorer to let someone know where you will be and when you are leaving, in case of an emergency.
While exploring you should be fully dressed and wearing medical masks if needed. Many abandoned places can contain toxic gasses and explorers can be easily cut or scratched if not dressed properly.
Damen Silos
The “Damen Silos” is one of many popular spots for urban exploring in Chicago. The building was constructed in 1906 by the Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. The building consists of two large buildings that were once connected and a few small buildings surrounding it.
The spot has been famous as it was featured in The Transformers. Many people visit this spot as it once was accessible allowing people to roam the tunnels under the building and enjoy the view on the top.
After a rave was thrown inside the building, its entrances were blocked by large cinderblocks, and ladders were cut to be inaccessible. The buildings still stand but were purchased by Michael Tadin Jr. He claims he will develop the industrial area.
Urban exploration can be a very fun and rewarding activity. Explorers can discover unique places and stories, and they can also gain a greater appreciation for the city’s history. In addition, urban exploring can provide an escape from everyday life and a chance to explore something new.
Urban exploration is not for all, and there are certain risks involved. However, for people looking for an adventure, it can be an exciting and rewarding experience. With the right safety precautions and preparation, anyone can enjoy the thrill of urban exploration.
