Highlights before the NBA
As a freshman, Cam Thomas played for Oscar F. Smith High School. However, he sat out his sophomore year because of disagreement between his mother and coaches. During his junior year, he transferred to Oak Hill Academy where he joined one of the best teams, the “Warriors”. Cam averaged over 25 points, 3.8 rebounds, and three assists per game. His performance led his team to a 31-5.
In 2019, he was named offensive player of the year with the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League; averaging 29 pointes per game. He continued to improve in ability and went on to average over 30 points as a senior. Soon he led his team to the Champions title tournament and won the most valuable player award. Then left the program stamped as the all time leading scorer.
After visiting both UCLA and LSU, Thomas committed to play college basketball at Louisiana state university. In his college debut game in 2020 he scored 25 points with a win over SIU. Cam led all freshman in scoring while averaging 23 points. Soon after he would declare for the 2021 NBA draft.
NBA Draft
On August 5, he was drafted to the Brooklyn Nets as the 27th pick and was singed to play in the NBA summer league. During this Thomas won summer league MVP and leading scorer averaging 27 points.
On October 19, he made his debut game in the NBA coming off the bench sadly only scoring two points with a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Cameron’s 2023 performance
Back then, Cam was just a rookie reserve guard who was making an early impressing on the superstars. Now, he has proven his ability to dominate the game. Thomas made a serious note that he has unique skills that the Nets can continue to lean on.
Cameron’s Current Role on the Brooklyn Nets
In early 2023, Cam put up 44 points in a win over the Washington Wizards. Then he went on to score 47 the next game in a loss against the Los Angeles Clippers. Following these games he scored 43 points in a loss against the Phoenix suns. Thomas became the youngest player in the NBA history to score over 40 points in consecutive games.
Despite his amazing scoring ability Cam’s role with the nets still remains uncertain. While just beginning to receive the praise he deserves Cam suffers a ankle sprain. He was injured Wednesday when he stepped on P.J. Tuckers foot. Consequently, he will be sidelined for at least two weeks.
Brooklyn Nets Before and After KD, Harden, and Kyrie trades
Back in 2019, when the Nets originally signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, they were named the biggest winners of the offseason.
The team showed fast progress and was in the position to compete for multiple championships. Durant and Kyrie were both signed to long-term deals, however, four years later that era of the Nets is viewed as a failure.
Soon after being sent to the Nets with Kyrie and Durant, Harden formed a big three with the duo. In June 2021, Harden and Kyrie were both injured and this caused the team to lose to the Bucks in the semifinal series. This even led to a series of events which cause KD and Kyrie to request trades. The two were traded to the Mavericks and Suns in February 2023.
