Ongoing Migrant Crisis
There has been an ongoing migrant crisis in Chicago since August of 2022. Subsequently, there have been millions of taxpayer dollars that have been spent on being able to supply these migrants with asylum in Chicago. However, as more and more migrants continue to flood into the city, these asylum seekers are finding it more and more difficult to provide for these migrants. Therefore, many of them do not get the care that they need to continue living. This is not fair for them, just as it is not fair for those who are paying tax-dollars to the government to help get them what they need. Aldermen have called for immediate resignation of political leaders.
Aldermans Call For Resignation
After a desperate attempt of trying to build yet another sanctuary building in Chicago, three alderman call for resignations as there were many aspects of this that were not considered. One of the main problems with building a site in Brighton Park, was the contaminated area that it was in. It was obvious this was not taken into consideration when trying to build this site.
“Three members of the Chicago City Council are calling for Mayor Brandon Johnson to fire administration officials over the state canceling the planned migrant tent camp in Brighton Park due to environmental issues,” according to Crain’s Chicago Business.
This was written in a letter that has been issued to Mayor Brandon Johnson himself, by these three City Council members.
Who Are They Calling to Resign?
They are calling a total of seven members to resign after their failed attempt at creating a site. They include:
- Garien Gatewood.
- Beatriz Ponce de Leon.
- Lori Lypson.
- Alyxandra Goodwin.
- Cristina Pacione-Zayas.
- Maura McCauley.
- Matthew Richards.
Therefore, it is likely that these aldermen are not going to back down until each of these people have completely resigned.

More Information On Why They Stopped
This decision came to be when workers had discovered that the type of soil they were building on was very harmful soil. Therefore, Governor J.B Pritzker decided to fully cancel this entire operation. Governor J.B. Pritzker made the final call to stop construction Tuesday after state experts uncovered “serious environmental concerns” at the site on the southwest side upon review of a nearly 800-page report conducted by Terracon Consultants, Inc,” according to Fox 32 News.
Subsequently, something needs to be done about this particular piece of land, to prevent any massive damage being done to any civilians. Since a letter has been written to Mayor Brandon Johnson about this issue, it seems something may surely get done about this contaminated area.
Many are saying that this area is contaminated by cancer-causing bacterias.
What Is Going To Happen To The Migrants?
It may take a bit of time, but it seems that they may have a back-up plan. This one ended up not working out well whatsoever. However, political leaders are going to have a meeting about this issue. The resolution they have right now is to put them in a CVS for the time being.
“The state says it will go back to the drawing board and plans to reconsider housing migrants in a shuttered CVS located at 26th and Pulaski in Little Village,” according to Fox 32 News. Even though this was so impromptu, something is still being done. This is to make sure they are getting properly taken care of. Nothing has yet been said regarding the resignations of these leaders.
Future of This Crisis
It seems that things continue to spiral out of control due to this migrant crisis, and it seems things will not get any better. However, only time will tell if something is done because of this crisis, to lessen the impact to taxpayers. Additionally, it is unclear if Mayor Brandon Johnson is going to follow through with the resignation request.
