Burglaries on the Rise
Burglaries across the City of Chicago has been rising over the past couple of years, and it has been an everlasting problem for many. The CPD (Chicago Police Department) has tried all they could to lower the amount of burglaries that occur, however that number can never reduce to zero.
This is something that is constantly on the conscience of citizens across the city, as well as businesses in Chicago. Businesses in Chicago have been trying to implement stronger security measures to prevent burglaries. However, there is always something that they could improve, as burglaries still occur. Additionally, the availability of weapons on the street is another reason why burglaries frequently happen as well.
What Occurred At This Prada Store?
Prada is a very well known store. They sell many accessories ranging from jewelry, to handbags, to fragrances and more. Therefore, many burglaries are bound to happen to an expensive well-known store. As expected, there was a burglary attempt at a Prada store in Chicago, whereas CPD had to respond immediately.
However, things took a terrible turn, as the burglar retaliated in a violent manner and wounded an officer in the process. “Chicago police were investigating after an officer and suspect were shot following a “crash-and-grab” attempt at a luxury store in the city’s Gold Coast neighborhood early Monday,” according to NBC 5 News. Thankfully, no one else was hurt in the process.
Large Number of Suspects
Apparently, there were several offenders that were part of this crime. The suspect that shot the CPD officer was also struck, and is currently in surgery. The officer, 55-year-old male, was wounded in the leg and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. His injuries are “non-life-threatening injury,” according to ABC 7 News.
Thankfully, the CPD officer seems to be getting better after this terrible incident, and should be able to return to duty within the near future. However, for the suspect, it is unknown the extent of the injuries. The only update received is them under surgery.

Additionally, after examining the crime scene, there were many discoveries that were made. “at least four vehicles, possibly more” had carried offenders to the scene and that two weapons had been recovered.
They both had extended magazines and automatic switches installed on them,” the alderperson said,” according to the Chicago Sun-Times. It is obvious they planned this attack for a while before fully executing it. Also, examining what they had installed on their weapons, clearly shows that there are still criminals out there that have access to very deadly weapons.
Action Done Against Burglaries
Taking action is something that should be on the list of mandatory tasks for the city. Violence is another huge factor that needs to be accounted for as well. Many businesses and residents are leaving Illinois because of these very severe issues. Many families in Chicago do not want to be victims of a crime, and want to protect those they love. This, in turn, is why they decide to leave Illinois, and move somewhere safer.
After this event, and many others, there needs to be an obvious change to dealing with crimes of this nature. There needs to be more restrictions, and stronger punishment for those that commit crimes of this nature, especially against a CPD officer. Additionally, if nothing is done, more people are going to want to commit actions of the same manner, as there is a lack of consequences. CPD does what they can to keep the community safe, risking their lives in the process like this CPD officer. However. this shows the lack of reasonable action taken by the city.
