No More Migrant Buses
Democratic residents in the city of Chicago are adamant about making the city renounce its position as a Sanctuary city because of the number of migrants coming in. Many people have complained about the amount of money being spent on them and making their shelters. Chicago is currently struggling to sustain the 34 thousand migrants plus their already residents. So far, the city has spent 156 million dollars on the people and their shelters. Even still, the city is trying to get Illinois to build more shelters.
“There is no money to take care of the migrants, nor is there moneys to take care of the people that are there. And so we have a mess on our hands.” Stated Truss Harris, coach in a football park in danger of getting redone for a shelter. Truss stated that they were sick and tired of seeing their schools funding get shared with the new migrant shelters. She shows her anger towards Mayor Brandon Johnson since it seems that he is not doing anything about the situation. “He has to have regrets, because people have regrets. We are not happy with what is happening here,” stated Truss.
City Needs a Better Plan

Mayor Johnson said his new policy is to get migrants to stay in the shelter for only sixty days. After that, they will get evicted from the shelters in Chicago. They would then get accommodated elsewhere. The first eviction was actually supposed to happen Monday.
However, due to the harsh weather, this was delayed twice. Now the migrant’s eviction will happen February first. Mayor Johnson is also trying to get the state to build shelters in Illinois, but outside of Chicago. “And you know, again, just keep in mind that the state of Illinois can build a shelter anywhere in the state of Illinois. So, the state does not have to build a shelter in Chicago,” stated Johnson.
Josh McBroom, a conservative councilman in Naperville, went viral after suggesting that the rich people of Illinois would offer housing to a migrant family. “And if there’s people that would do that, God bless them. So if we could raise awareness in that way, I think we need to find out. I think we need to find out who would be willing to house migrant families,” said McBroom.
He pointed out that the reason for this post was to show people their ‘hypocrisy’. Nonetheless, it does not look like Brandon Johnson has any plans of revoking the sanctuary title.
