Studies Show
There have been some upcoming studies that are showing, the kiwi fruit can assist in mental heath in just days. According to studies published in the British Journal of Nutrition, doctors are starting to move away from suggesting eat apples. They are now moving towards the attention of the kiwi and how they can improve life for people.
“It’s great for people to be aware that the smallest change could impact their body, like adding kiwifruit, could change how people feel every day,” study co-author Tamlin Conner, who teaches psychology at the University of Otago, said in a statement.
The Process
Obviosly, there is a process to test out each study to prove it’s theory. As well as, having steps to take, and evaluations to be done to see if theories are true. The following are the steps that was done for this theory:
Every day for eight weeks, participants were either given a placebo, a 250mg vitamin C supplement. or two kiwis. Then, they were asked to report on their physical activity, vitality, mood, and sleep quality. Subsequently, the researchers hypothesized that vitamin C could play a role in mood and healthy brain function.
Furthermore, the curiosity is to see how fruit intake could potentially impact mental health over a period of time.
The Specifications of the Kiwi Study
In addition to research for studies, doctors need multiple people from a range of age to assist. In this case, they had participants from ages between 18-35. However all of these people had one thing in common, they had low plasma levels of vitamin C.
Data from a three-armed placebo-controlled trial was analyzed during this study. When the study was conducted, there were three groups, departed by the researchers. All of the groups, had different tasks. The first group received two kiwifruit daily. The next group received a daily placebo tablet, and the last group revived a vitamin C supplement everyday.
In order to collect the data from each participant, they used smartphones. Along with every other week blood testing.
Participants ingested their assigned placebo or alternative for one month and was given a survey every other day. The surveys collected data on several components of the kiwis, including:
- Physical activity levels.
- Energy and fatigue.
- Sleep quality and quantity.
- Mood.
- Flourishing.
Based on their analysis, researchers found that participants consuming the kiwifruit saw mood and vitality improvement at around four days and improvement in flourishing at around day 14.
