What Occurred in Mississippi
What occurred in Mississippi on the 24th of January 2023, was absolutely devastating. Two black men were not expecting their lives to be put on the line because of the ignorance of certain police officers. There were a series of officers that decided to break into the home of the two victims and were tortured brutally.
The victims had recounted this horrendous night, saying these officers beat them, sexually assaulted them, and at a point one officer put a gun in the victims’ mouth and shot him. This egregious crime was not going to go unnoticed. Eventually, all 6 officers were caught, arrested, and are now on trial.
Sentences for the Officers
The officer that did the most severe damage has already received the amount of time that he is going to spend behind bars. After pleading guilty, he got 20 years behind bars and has to pay a fine of $79,500 in restitution to the victims. However, the other 5 officers are still awaiting their sentence, which may likely be long ones.
Furthermore, there were also claims that these officers had called themselves the “Goon Squad.” This is because of committing these crimes, and not reporting them whatsoever. This goes to show that these officers should have never been on the force to begin with, as they are treating it as if it is a joke.
The Future of This Incident
There is a hope that the victims are able to fully heal from what they had to endure. It is safe to say that they may need help to get over what they had to endure that day. It was absolutely tragic and completely uncalled for, and justice is deserved for these two victims. Furthermore, they are apologizing for committing the crime, however many agree that they are only apologizing because they got caught.
Otherwise, they would never have said anything of the matter, and would have pretended it had never happened. It is safe to say that each of these men are going to receive the maximum sentence that the court allows, and they will certainly not spend a nice time in jail.
