The Baltimore Key Bridge
The Baltimore Key Bridge is a monument in Baltimore history. This Baltimore bridge was a major method of transportation between the busy D.C area. On a typical day, there are over 35,000 drivers that utilize this bridge. Furthermore, many cargo ships would travel past this bridge, and accidents were never experienced around this bridge.
However, things took a completely terrifying turn. There was a crash with a massive container ship. This caused the entire bridge to fully collapse. Additionally, there was nothing that could be done to prevent this from occurring. There were countless efforts the captain did to try to prevent this from happening. However, it was just out of his control.
The Baltimore Key Bridge Collapse
At around 1:30 AM, a large container ship was trying to pass under this bridge. However, moments before the crash was going to occur, it was clear the ship was undergoing power issues. The lights continued to turn on and off. Furthermore, there were also transmissions that were being communicated between the captain and local authorities, as it was clear an accident was prone to occurring.
The main point of focus was to ensure no one was on this bridge, and to get everyone off to maintain safety. However, there were workers that were on that bridge. “Officials said an eight-person crew repairing potholes on the bridge plunged into the water and were the focus of the search,” according to The Washington Post. Additionally, rescue teams were sent to ensure the workers were rescued and brought to safety as soon as possible.
Future of This Event
The collapse of the bridge is a severe blow to Baltimore, as it served as a significant conduit for the city. Linking Washington D.C. and Baltimore, it was a daily route for countless individuals. In addition, many held a personal fondness for this bridge, often traveling on it themselves. Furthermore, for some, it may have been the sole passage to essential places like work or home, potentially disrupting their daily routines.
It is hoped that the individuals working on the bridge at the time of the collapse have been rescued and are safe and receiving the necessary care.
