At this point, almost every Chicagoan knows what a Glock switch does. This isn’t because Gun enthusiasts have infiltrated Chicago. It’s because Glock switches, also known as auto sears have been extensively used by Chicago’s criminal element. For this reason, and for the protection of Chicago citizens, the city of Chicago is suing Glock for continuing to sell easily modifiable pistols.
Glock pistols, like the Glock 9 are semi-automatic, however, with the attachment of the auto sear they become weapons of mass destruction. Combined with an extended magazine or a drum magazine, what was once a simple pistol is now a weapon of mass death.

Sue Glock
Chicago has been asked time and time again by America to take care of its gun problem. Suing Glock, a company associated with one of the most powerful NGOs, the National Rifle Association is certainly a ballsy political move. However, the consequences of this major lawsuit will set a precedent for cases like this in the future.
What this means is that if Chicago wins, and this case goes all the way up to the Supreme Court, then it sets a precedent that cities can win against gun companies that sell easily modifiable pistols. For both the citizens of Chicago and the citizens of other cities, Chicago needs to win this case. If so, Pistols from Glock may end up modified so that they can’t have a switch equipped to them.
Raise the Minimum Wage to 23 Dollars
However, it must be said that the violence in the city of Chicago did not appear out of thin air. While the reduction of switches may decrease the number of bodies that fall, the reason why the trigger was pulled wasn’t addressed. Chicago has a poverty problem that bleeds into a crime problem that bleeds into a homicide problem.
At what point is Chicago going to look inward and realize the truth? No one who is paid a living wage needs to go defend drug territory with a Glock with a switch. If no one can get any jobs and everyone you know lives in the same 3 neighborhoods because of redlining, then the opportunity for social mobility. The greatest weapon against gun violence is a universal living wage.
