Elon Musk
Elon Musk is a well-known billionaire and is famous for many things across the world. He has had a major impact with the technology that he has helped develop. Furthermore, there are several achievements that he has reached within the past couple of years, including a brain implant that allows humans to manipulate technology with their minds. Many continue to be fascinated with what Musk invents, as they are almost otherworldly. In addition to the fame and the foundation that he has built himself, he is beginning to get into some tension with the Brazilian government.
What Exactly are the Tensions?
Elon Musk bought Twitter back in 2022, and changed the name to ‘X,’ and added different rules and regulations to it. Ultimately, his goal was to make this application safer to use, and easier to maneuver. Furthermore, X is prevalent across the world, including Brazil. However, the Brazilian government made it clear that this app needs to follow their constitution if it is going to be in their country. However, this is something they feel that Elon Musk is not following, as they have asked for him to block some accounts, to which he has not done, and made clear he will not do.
They feel that this is a violation of their constitution. Therefore, they have opened a case against him, to which it is unclear if Elon Musk is going to succumb and ultimately block those accounts as originally requested.
The Future of These Tensions
It is unknown if Elon Musk is going to comply with their requests, as a case is the last thing he wants to worry about. However, he may argue that he is the owner of X, and therefore can choose what he wants to do with the application, despite what other countries may ask of him. Ultimately, he may have the full control here, and may end up winning the case if it goes to court.
However, those that work with the Brazilian government have argued that “although extraordinary, are legally sound and necessary to purge social media of fake news,” according to NPR. Protecting Brazilian democracy is of upmost concern for their government.
