The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Miami Heat 105-104 in Wednesday’s April 18 play-in game. This was hardly a beautiful match, appropriate for a postseason match. The victory puts the 76ers in place to reach the conference playoffs. However, their game on Wednesday raised questions about their potential to defeat the Knicks. The 76ers seemed less assured of the victory of an organization set to make it toward a first-round upset.
Fortunately as demonstrated by the last one-point margin, the most recent victory was not without difficulty. Throughout three quarters against the Miami Heat, Joel Embiid who was recuperating from knee surgery was only 3-for-12 from the field. Embiid strayed from his usual function as the offense’s primary threat for long periods. With Maxey hindered by Miami’s defensive zone and Tobias Harris, whom was substituted in clutch time. Unable to make an impact, the Philadelphia 76ers depended on backup forward Nicolas Batum. Who delivered, scoring 20 points and going 6-for-10 from deep. Batum added a game-winning block during the final seconds.
Although, facing the skillful Philadelphia Sixers, the New York Knicks possesses the players needed for a man-to-man defense strategy. OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, and a frontcourt combination of two powerful centers, Isaiah Hartenstein and Mitchell Robinson. The New York Knicks exude defensive toughness they aren’t going to give Embiid or his teammates any free looks. When Anunoby is on the floor, the New York Knicks allowed a staggering 100.9 points per 100 possessions.
Miami Heat exploited other gap the New York Knicks will utilize more. Miami Heat produced 20 second-chance baskets on 18 offensive boards during the play-in game. Its concerning for Philadelphia 76ers considering that the New York Knicks are the league’s best offensively rebounding team.
Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid salvages Play-In with clutch finish
Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers were an offensive catastrophe for the majority of the opening three quarters against the Miami Heat, and the Philly crowd knew it. Miami Heat zone defense, which had the Philadelphia 76ers’ entirely out of rhythm. Joel Embiid in specifically was made vulnerable for his inability to generate any type of offense. Yet that argument wasn’t going to work as Joel Embiid sank into the background of progressively stagnant possessions. A string of playoff failures has left him with little tolerance for additional big-stage flops, and this was one of his worst yet.
Throughout three quarters, Joel Embiid took three shots. No face-up jumpers, No two-man actions, No bully posts. On the rare occasions when he had any possession over the ball, he was hesitant to make any moves.
But Joel Embiid got himself and the 76ers’ out, so now he has a chance to start a new postseason beginning which will almost certainly be a brawl in the first round against the Knicks. Good thing for Embiid is that he gets a few days to heal, as well as his initial postseason game behind him. Embiid physical condition should be stronger for Game 1 on Saturday April 20.
Miami Heat Jimmy Butler injures knee play-in against Philadelphia 76ers

Miami Heat worry for small forward Jimmy Butler that suffered a probable MCL damage to his right knee during Miami’s play-in tournament defeat. Jimmy Butler was injured on the last play during the first quarter following a possible fast-break layup. Jimmy Butler attempted to fake out Kelly Oubre Jr. to secure a layup, but mainly to have his knee landed on by Oubre. Resulting in Jimmy Butler to collapse to the ground in discomfort.
Afterward, Butler stood up following wasting a long time on the floor and made the two free shots. Butler stayed in the game, but produced only 12 points on 3-for-14 shooting the remainder of the way. After Miami’s offense stalled despite building a 12-point halftime lead, enabling Philadelphia to rally from behind and win.
“I wasn’t able to do a sufficient job, really hurts given the rhythm of the game and everything,” Butler stated during an interview. “Just hope I’m okay. I want to get up tomorrow and continue to be able to stick-and-move.
The Miami Heat face as the year before, competing at home to advance to the playoffs eighth seed. The team that wins the match on Friday April 19, travels to Boston to face the Celtics on Sunday April 21. Jimmy Butler remained in the game, expecting that “adrenaline would kick back in,” allowing him to take control. Rather, Butler shot 3-for-10 in the second half and only two in the fourth quarter of the game. Neither of which came in the last four minutes.
