Homelessness in the U.S
Homelessness is a major issue that is prominent in the U.S. The Supreme Court understands the issue of homelessness but has done little to assist. There are millions of people living in terrible conditions, sleeping under viaducts, having to undergo terrible weather conditions. Furthermore, there are children that have to go through this as well. However, there are still many people in the U.S that feel extreme sympathy for them.
These people help in whatever way they can, offering them food, money, and even jobs in some cases. Despite this, there is still widespread suffering that is endured by homeless people, and most are completely undeserving of this suffering. To make matters worse, the Supreme Court is potentially going to pass a bill that essentially attacks homeless people.
Supreme Court to Ticket Homeless People
As bizarre as it may sound, the Supreme Court has been weighing a major decision. This decision is to allow cities in the U.S to potentially ticket homeless people. The state of Oregon has already carried this out in a way, fining those that sleep in public up to $295, which increases to $500 if not paid in time or at all.
This can be extremely difficult to grapple with for them, as they may not even have the funds to get something to eat certain days. This can be considered ‘cruel and unusual punishment,’ as they may not have control over their situation. Therefore, there are millions across the country that are protesting against this potential decision, as it is completely unjust. However, it is still 50/50 for this to become a reality.
The Future of This Decision
It is obvious if this decision passes, there needs to be more shelter or housing made available for them, as they may have no other option. A lot of homeless people have no family to turn to.
Therefore, the Supreme Court needs to take into account all of the potential scenarios that homeless people may be facing. If things like this are not considered, then surely there will be certain retaliation because of this decision. The majority of Americans hope that this bill is not passed, as it is unfair, and unjust.
