Caught for writing a fraudulent check, 58-year-old reality star Peter Thomas was located and quickly arrested at Miami International Airport on Friday, March 1, 2019. Now he is telling his side of the story.
Less than a week out of jail, Thomas “clears the rumors” in a seven-minute long Instagram clip. On Wednesday night, the same week, he explained how the misunderstanding started when he wrote a $4,000 check addressed to a talent agency to schedule an entertainer for his new bar.
Unbeknownst to the star, his “checking account was compromised.” Thomas surmised that “somebody got my credit card number and was using it everywhere.”
The six days spent in jail was taxing on Thomas, “I don’t wish that on anyone, but I had a lot of time to think, and I had a lot of time to take medication because I’m claustrophobic.”
At the time of his arrest, reports he had just gotten off of a flight to attend the opening of his nightclub in Miami Beach. On top of having to spend his night in jail, Thomas was held without a bond.
At the same time, he was arrested as a fugitive by Miami-Dade Police Department Officers. He was unable to locate a lawyer to resolve the situation.
The former reality TV star is mostly recognized for marrying Cynthia Bailey, a former supermodel, on an episode of Bravo in 2010.
The star has appeared on “Real Housewives of Atlanta” for several seasons, joining the tv series three seasons in with his ex-wife Cynthia Bailey.
The marriage lasted almost seven years before his wife confronted him with a divorce filing. He later told US Weekly that she was not able to “give up Cynthia Bailey to be Cynthia Bailey Thomas,” after announcing the severed union to the public.
“I was in love with Peter, but I’m just not wife material. I will never be in a relationship again where it will take a lawyer for me to walk away.”
Despite the former supermodels’ divorce, Thomas and Bailey stay in close contact as friends. He still appears on Bravo as well as goes on trips with Bailey.
She insists that there is no chance of them getting back together, but to the Bravo’s fans hope otherwise.
On the day of his release, his attorney confirmed it was a misunderstanding which has since been resolved, according to E! News.
