“Boy Meets World” actor Ben Savage has thrown his hat into the ring to replace Democratic Representative Adam Schiff in Congress. In a post on Instagram Savage wrote that “…it’s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country’s most pressing issues.”
Back in January, the 42-year-old actor filed the necessary paper with the Federal Election Commission to run in the 30th Congressional District. He is running as a Democrat.
Savage’s Political Site
Savage’s social media post states that he is “a proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30.” He adds that he “comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community.”
The district the actor is looking to represent covers a portion of Los Angeles that includes Burbank, Glendale, and Hollywood. It is also home to entertainment industry giants such as ABC and Disney Studios.
On his website savageforcongress.com. he states that he is “laser-focused on making every neighborhood and every Angeleno safer.” He has been a major supporter of “a robust public safety presence.” Saying it keeps communities vibrant and safe. Savage is also a believer in police reforms and improvements to interactions between police and citizens.
If elected, the actor states he will support:
- Periodic and recurring background checks.
- Support intensive training for police officers.
- Psychological exams for new officers.
- An improved system of community policing.
Savage further adds that he will work to foster trust between communities underserved and local law enforcement. To “root out corruption,” Savage states he will “advocate for checks and balances.”
Future Changes
He is also a firm believer that it is time to see more done for those experiencing homelessness. The actor states that he wants to fight for more affordable housing options and establish more resources for mothers (including soon-to-be moms) and veterans. Additionally, his website says that there is a need for more “funding and resources for medical, clinical, and psychological care.”
At the beginning of the year former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Schiff, stated he was going to run for the Senate seat the Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein has held for three decades. Last month, Feinstein announced she would be retiring after her current term expires in 2024.
Savage holds a degree in political science and graduated from Stanford University. In 2022, he unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the West Hollywood city council.
