Superstar Beyonce has been a hot topic in the media as of late. Everywhere from her dominating the Country music charts to her Superbowl commercial. Now it’s her new hair care line, Cecred.
More About Cecred
“Cecred is all about sharing the knowledge; honoring traditions and mixing it with technology and science”
The world-renowed superstar says in an ad about her new hair-care line. The inspiration for the haircare line comes from a various amount of sources; one of them being her childhood. One particular part being her mother, Tina Knowles, salon. In an interview with Essence magazine, Beyonce goes into detail about what it was like growing up in her mother’s salon, located in the back of their Houston home. Reminiscing on the memories of seeing her mother doing hair. Stating that her first job ever was working in her mother’s salon and Destiny Child’s introduction to stardom.

That being another one of the singer’s inspirations, how salons and barbershops are safe spaces and pillars within the Black community. Going into detail about how when her mother was styling her clients, that it was more than just a hairstyle. It was a form of therapy, a form of healing. Stating how she was able to directly see how positive the impact of taking care of our hair and getting it styled does for women, especially for women of color.
Not Her First Rodeo
Now this isn’t Beyonce’s first business endeavor outside of music. In fact, the singer has 2 clothing lines, Ivy Park and House of Dereon. Now the most well-known and recent line is Ivy Park, founded under the singer’s entertainment company, Parkwood Entertainment. Collaborating with big names such as Ice Spice, as well as having a variety of themes including a rodeo one.
House of Dereon is actually the artist’s first clothing line to debut back in 2006. The line consisted of fashionable casual wear, such as embroidered sweatpants and hoodies. Along with other items like denim jeans, shoes and dresses. However, the line didn’t receive the success as thought due to not really having a direct target demographic as well as some fans being confused by the sudden launch. Contrary to the supposed lack of success, the line ran for approximately 6 years before officially closing house.
Just like Cecred and many other businesses of Beyonce, the House of Dereon line drew inspiration from a familial place. The line being inspired by the styles of her maternal grandmother, Agnez Dereon and her mother. The line being a fusion of styles from the matriarchal figures, centering around the 40’s and 70’s. The supposed failure of this line was merely a stepping stone for the H-Town superstar to create something greater.
