Fatal Shooting Goes Down In Irving Park

On Sunday afternoon, March 17th, the Chicago Police Department were called to the 4200 block of North Kimball Avenue. In this location they found the body of 25 year old man. At this location, and more specifically at the outside of his porch, it is where he was found unconscious with several gunshot wounds in his chest. After this man was found, he was immediately rushed to the hospital to try to save his life. They rushed him to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was later unfortunately pronounced dead.

This man was later identified as 25 year old, Bernardo Romero by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to WGN9 News. Unfortunately, as of the moment, no arrests have been made. There is still nobody that has to be hold accountable for the crime that was committed here. However, the case is still under investigation. Romero’s parents are understandably destroyed with the news and they also would like to know who did this atrocity with their son’s life.

What Happened at the Time of the Events

According to FOX32 Chicago, it’s been claimed that Romero at the time of the incident was sitting on a front porch in Irving Park neighborhood. Now, at around 1:23 p.m. he was approached by two men that in fact, were armed with guns.

Chicago police state that the two men did ultimately fire gun shots at Romero hitting and striking him with five shots in the chest area. After the men did what they did, they left the area and fled on foot. They then got into a white SUV, and that is how they got away with it. Unfortunately, that is how this Chicago man was fatally shot in Irving Park.

Potential Set Up for Bernardo Romero

This case has a wild and frightening twist to it, because it was also alleged by social media detectives that the mother of Romero’s child had a major part to do in the murder of this man in Irving Park. As for the police, they still don’t have clear and confirmed what could have caused or led for this shooting to take place. However, social media detectives firmly allege that the man’s child’s mother “set him up.”

First of all the child’s mother goes by, Marleny Janet and Marleny Romero. Her legal name is Marlene Janet Benitez, and she is a 26 year old woman. Moreover, as to why this is a potential possibility is because according to a viral post on Facebook, the woman allegedly calls out Romero’s enemies nd shares his location to put a target on him. The post said the following,

“My bd (baby daddy) got the weakest opps (enemies). He just keep coming home alive and untouched. Ain’t he snitch on half of y’all? Ain’t he ‘rob’ half of y’all? Anyways, he is not located in 4250 N Kimball. I repeat he is not.”

History of Criminal Record and Domestic Violence

The statement mentioned above, says a lot of who Marleny is as a person, and essentially showcases her intentions. In fact, she already holds a legal criminal record history. The Chicago Police Department state that she was arrested on August 27th for Domestic Battery and Bodily Harm. However, she was then release on August 28th. Also many of their social media users have stated that  the couple had already been going through and had an ongoing and endless relationship where domestic violence took place.

It had gotten to the point of Marleny even stabbing Romero. This particular incident led to her previously mentioned arrest. Consequently, after this incident she deactivated her Facebook account, but according to her Facebook friends and users, she had already began deleting most of the pictures she had of Romero, her child’s father.

Romero’s Family Needs Support from the Community

Romero’s family have also taken the news onto Facebook, advocating about their loved one’s death. Besides informing people they are also asking for financial support, they stated the following,

“We want to inform you of the passing of my son Bernardo Romero. Any help that you want to give us for the funeral expenses, to me and my family in these difficult times we are going through, you can send to the Zelle of Jose Manuel Romero.”

“We want to thank you in advance for your consideration and support in such a difficult time for our family.”

As previously mentioned, the family is heartbroken and they also want to know who did this to their loved one. Therefore, if anyone has any type of information on the deadly shooting they are asked to contact CPD Area Five Detectives at 312-746-6554 or dial 911. Also tips for police can also be filed at CPDtip.com. Tips about the case can be left anonymously as well.
