Eastern Bering Snow Crabs have been found to have starved to death in Alaska. This comes as a result of a climate change negatively impacting the region. The crabs starved to death to death specifically because of the rising tides.
“The eastern Bering Sea snow crabs, once thought to be overfished, actually starved to death en masse because the change in water temperature “increased their caloric needs considerably,” according to scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Climate change has shown itself to be an existential in in the last 50 years. The Eastern Bering Crabs living in Alaska have become climate change’s newest victims.
The Urgent Situation

Climate Change has been ravaging the oceans and environments of earth ever since the birth of the industrial revolution. As a result of greenhouse gases, the Earth has continued getting warmer and warmer.
The warmer the Earth gets the greater the consequences are for wild life and third world nations. The death of the crabs is but one of many tragedies at the hand of climate change. “A 2-degree rise in global temperatures is considered a critical threshold above which dangerous and cascading effects of human-generated climate change will occur,” according NASA.
What Can Be Done About It
Climate Change is one of the most important issues of the modern age. Yet, the governments of the world have not been doing enough. Earth is suffering through warmer climates, and violent weather as a result of the greenhouse gases being produced by big fossil fuel companies like Shell. As as matter of fact, the issues has become so prevalent that the companies responsible for the problem have begun pretending to solve it by “green washing.”
“Greenwashing is the process of conveying a false impression or misleading information about how a company’s products are environmentally sound,” according to Investopedia. The crabs that starved to death are a product of the way the world is set up for big businesses. The world must hold the corporations responsible for climate change to prevent tragedies like this from happening ever again.
