This morning, a crash with an Amtrak train and a water supply truck near Los Angeles, California in the city of Moorpark. Most passengers received no injuries. Four sustained only minor injuries and were not sent to the hospital.
When It Happened
The driver of the vehicle, which is thought to be a truck supplying water to nearby farms, was hospitalized. His condition is currently unknown. The accident was reported at 11:18 am. After the collision, several of the train cars derailed from the track. First responders quickly put out a small fire caused by the crash.
“Suddenly, it flies forward. I felt a little bit of shaking. Really violent. I thought we were going off the rails. Then it stopped,” reported a passenger from the scene. Friends and family of passengers can call this number to find loved ones: 805-465–6650.
It is unclear who or what is at fault for the accident. Furthermore, this is one of several crashes in the last couple of months involving Amtrak.
A crash with an Amtrak train and a water supply truck is definitely not the first of its kind. Just last month, there was a crash between an Amtrak train and a semi-truck in Volusia County. On June 6th, 2023, there was an Amtrak accident between a car and an Amtrak train headed for Chicago, seriously injuring a 44-year-old man.
After the Crash
Passengers were moving off of the train and into a field nearby afterward. They stayed there and waited until a bus came and was able to pick them up. Brian McGrath (Captain of the Ventura County Fire Department) said that although they weren’t sure how many people were hurt, it was all minor.
