How the World Has come to Bullying
What is the definition of bullying? This world went from having rules in certain areas around bullying and discrimination to anywhere and everywhere it is okay to bully. Sadly, there are personal attacks all around the U.S. when people don’t even get the chance to know what is actually happening.
Laws are being passed to not include people who are a part of the LGBTQ community, particularly transgenders. Furthermore, these laws being passed are to take away their medical help and refusing to allow them gender affirming care.
The definition of bullying is simple, “to seek to harm, intimidate, or coerce (someone perceived as vulnerable).”
What is the LGBTQ community
There are some people in this community who are vulnerable. They find it hard to make sense of themselves while being uncomfortable in their own body. Subsequently, they seek ways to change whatever they can about themselves. In addition to these lawmakers, there are parents who do not support their own children.
Moreover, being bullied at school or out in public is hard. However, as soon as that bullying is brought home, into a place where children are supposed to feel safe, can be treacherous. In fact, people should be prepared for war.
Kids hardly ever recover from at home bullying. It is the most scarring of them all. They expect it from school and out in public. Furthermore, you should never make a child nervous to come home because of your actions.
Laws Passing and Allowing Discrimination
Additionally, there are many states that have passed laws over the years preventing trans people from getting help. States like Ohio, Florida, Arizona, along with 27 others, have passed the law to not allow transgender people get the medical help they need until a certain age. As well as these laws making it so transgender females and males cannot play sports unless on their born gender team.
Meanwhile, in any of these states with the active discrimination law; If any medical doctor or nurse tries to help them, they will face charges and be seen to the medical bored. After the fact, the could face a fine, jail time, and suspension or termination of medical license.
How people bully others
Obviously there are many forms of bullying discrimination, some used more than others. Meanwhile there isn’t much anyone can do when someone is getting bullied, unless people speak up. In addition, keep in mind that not only LGBTQ based people get bullied.
Everyday someone is getting bullied for the most insensitive things ever. Whether that is their diet, their body, hair color, sexual orientation, looks. Either way, tormenting others cuts deeps into someones feelings. Many who had discrimination in life tend to lash out, are in therapy, or just isolate because they are so scared of the outside world.
Does that sound fair to them? Tons of people all around the world have trouble looking in the mirror, getting their picture taken, have eating disorders because people can’t be nice.
People Losing Their Voice
“There’s no substitute for being explicitly listed in the law,” Ian Thompson, LGBTQ legislative director at the American Civil Liberties Union, said. “I also think it’s a very powerful statement to see that it is the law of the land that discrimination against individuals because of their sexual orientation or gender identity is wrong and illegal.” There are not many people standing up to these outrageous laws.
Furthermore, people who have been targeted lose their voice to stand up for themselves and their fellow community members. Due to the amount of people who are blind sighted and rude to get to know the truth, or are to scared for the truth.
“These effects occur because anti-discrimination legislation can create social norms that govern what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviors to display toward stigmatized individuals,” the researchers wrote.
Thompson of the ACLU said, “When people already think these protections are in place. It can be difficult to work up the motivation that’s necessary to push for them.”
It Is Time for a Change
Bullying is unfair to everyone. However, is it fair to ask someone not to bully if those people are included in making these laws get passed. No, it isn’t. Be the change not many people are successfully making. Because the LGBTQ community are people too, and they deserve the same amount of respect.
Again, they shouldn’t be bullied for making themselves comfortable in their body. No one likes being uncomfortable. Be kind and be aware.
