55 migrants in Chicago were discovered to have tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a condition that severely negatively impacts the lungs. This comes as recent update on the ongoing Chicago migrant crisis. The crisis started when Greg Abott, Texan governor, decided that one of the one of the largest states in the nation didn’t have space for others. As a consequence of his lack of empathy he sent the migrants to major democrat run cities. Democrat run cities are usually sanctuary states.
Migrant Sanctuary In Theory
Furthermore, A sanctuary state is a place where asylum seekers can find a place to stay while they are displaced from their place of origin. Chicago, as a consequence of its values of compassion and empathy, is a sanctuary state. Though, one can sign things into law make platitudes and call oneself a saint, but action when the time comes is what matters most.
Consequences
People are what they do. Part of what one does is what one allows to happen. This is why “Batman” never watches someone die on his watch. The city of Chicago placed people in cramped, and unsanitary cages for an extended period of time and a tuberculosis outbreak was the result.
“The confirmed tuberculosis cases come as more than 55 measles cases have now been confirmed in Chicago, with the majority of those cases being reported in the Pilsen migrant shelter on Halsted Street.” according to Fox News.
Is This a Problem?

Fortunately for the city of Chicago this doesn’t seem to be a public safety issue. Furthermore, for the migrants themselves, TB is curable with antibiotics over the course of 6 months. “We will continue to offer treatment to individuals as necessary and take the proper precautions to eliminate spread, but we do not consider this a matter presenting a substantial threat to the public.” according to Fox News.
No
For Tuberculosis to spread from one individual to another it takes a really long time with super up close and personal contact. Moreover, these are the exact conditions that the migrants live in. They are cramped and packed together too closely.
Finally, warm and wet environments are a breeding ground for disease and infections. Ultimately, they are relying on the state, so if something happens to them, It is up to the city of Chicago to take accountability for its negligence of a vulnerable population.
