With Halloween approaching, everyone is preparing for the spooky season. Whether it’s setting up scary decorations all around their house, figuring out costumes, or making spooktacular goodies. Here’s some Halloween classics to sit down and watch while you do so.
‘The Craft’
This witchy movie is perfect to start the Halloween season off. The film follows main character, high school student Sarah (played by Robin Tunney) as she transfers to a new school in Los Angeles. Upon this change, Sarah discovers that she has telekinetic abilities. This discovery catches the attention of three wannabe witches who are seeking a fourth member to join their group and practice rituals.
The four girls, Bonnie (Scream star, Neve Campbell), Rochelle (Rachel True), Nancy (Fairuza Balk) and Sarah bond realizing they all come from traumatic backgrounds. With the bond and rituals, the group receives new-found powers and are ecstatic. However, with these newly founded powers comes with great responsibility.

‘Beetlejuice’
This 1988’s classic, directed by Tim Burton follows married couple, Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin), who recently just died in a car accident. Initially unaware of their passing, the pair’s spirits find themselves stuck in their presence. Then in come the Deetz family, Charles (Jeffery Jones) and Delia (Catherine O’Hara) with their teenage daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) wanting to buy the home.
The Maitland’s displeased with this news, the couple attempt to scare the family out of the home. However, the attempts fail and attracts the attention of the infamous spirit, Beetlejuice. He offers “help” to the pair that is detrimental to both the Maitland’s and Deetz’s.

‘Little Shop of Horrors’
Now, this musical horror film is guaranteed to have you movin’ and groovin’. The film follows shy and reserved floral shop assistant, Seymour Krelborn (Rick Moranis), who is secretly crushing on his co-worker, Audrey (Ellen Greene). During an eclipse, Seymour stumbles upon a bizarre plant (an extra terrestrial version of a Venus flytrap) which he names Audrey II in his co-worker’s honor.
Even though Seymour takes great care of the plant, it seems as though the specimen is dying. Seymour then discovers that the plant thrives off of human flesh and blood, after accidentally pricking his finger and letting it suckle his finger.
However, as the plant grows, Seymour’s droplets of blood no longer suffice. Now the floral shop assistant has to figure out how to feed this carnivorous plant’s insatiable hunger.

‘Casper’
If you’re looking for something more kid-friendly for a Halloween movie, this ghostly classic is perfect for that. This film follows a friendly young ghost, Casper (voiced by Malachi Pearson), who haunts an old mansion in Maine. Then comes paranormal specialist, Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman) and his teenage daughter Kat (Christina Ricci), moving into the mansion due to Dr. Harvey wanting to communicate with Casper and other spirits in the house.
Upon arrival, Casper begins to develop a crush on Kat, and the two begin to build a bond. However, Casper’s three uncles known as the “Ghostly Trio” cause trouble with their mischievous pranks.
The film is available on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video.
‘Halloween’
Last but not least, it wouldn’t be a Halloween movie marathon without watching the film with its namesake. There are two versions of the first “Halloween” movie.
One being the original (John Carpenter’s version) released in 1978 and remake (Rob Zombie’s version) released in 2007, Whichever one you want to watch, the plot is essentially the same. This classic starts off with 21-year-old Michael Myers escaping prison after being locked away for 15 years for the murder of his older sister, Judith. Now out and about, Michael is strolling the streets looking for his next victim.
The 1978 original is available on Amazon Prime Video and 2007 remake is available on there as well. For a full on movie marathon, be sure to grab the whole series.
