Adam Montgomery has a lengthy criminal record, which the judge studied before imposing his sentence. The father of Harmony Montgomery, the 5-year-old New Hampshire girl whose remains have yet to be located, was sentenced to more than 50 years to life in prison on Thursday for her beating death.

Harmony Montgomery’s Father Receives Life in Prison

Adam Montgomery was convicted of second-degree murder in February for his daughter Harmony’s death in 2019. She was reported missing in 2021. He was also found guilty of second-degree assault, witness tampering, altering physical evidence, and abuse of a body, according to court records. “After she died, you treated her body as if it were trash, and worse. “You did unimaginable things to her body in order to avoid being identified as her murderer,” Judge Messer stated.

Harmony Montgomery’s father received 56 years to life in prison for second-degree murder, second-degree assault, abuse of a corpse, manipulating physical evidence, and witness tampering in connection with her death. Since Adam Montgomery’s sentences have to be served consecutively, he will not be eligible for parole until he is 100 years of age or older.

The Daughter

Harmony Montgomery was last seen in 2019, however, it took more than two years for her disappearance to be declared. Adam, according to the prosecution, brutally beat the girl to death in the car they lived in before hiding and stuffing Harmony Montgomery’s body into many bags. Harmony had soiled herself in her sleep on Dec. 7, 2019, the day that investigators suspect she passed away, according to prosecutors. According to reports, her father gave her a severe beating on the head and admitted to his wife, “I think I really hurt her this time.”

He allegedly shoved his dead daughter into a duffel bag after realizing she was dead. The prosecution claims that before cutting up her remains and throwing them away outside of Boston, he moved her body several times and stored it for weeks.

The Mother

“She had a life worth living unlike your own, and it bothered you to your core that she was nothing like you…,” Crystal Sorey, Harmony’s mother, stated. “She was kind, witty, intelligent, sassy, loving, and most importantly, gorgeous on the inside and out. Unlike you, she wasn’t a coward.”

Harmony’s mother last communicated with daughter via FaceTime in the spring of 2019, but she was unable to get through. Montgomery killed Harmony by beating her on Dec. 7, 2019. Then proceeded to “transport and consolidate her body over three months,” before disposing of her body on March 4, 2020, according to the sentencing document. Prosecutors claim that he then lied about her location for over two years.

Several people spoke in court on Thursday to provide their victim impact statements. Crystal Sorey, Harmony’s mother, spoke of her love for her daughter. Also, she spoke on her contempt for the “monster” and “coward” who killed her daughter. She told Montgomery, “You couldn’t stand it; she made a mark everywhere she went and lit up a room when she walked in.”

Prosecutor

The prosecutor asked Adam Montgomery to reveal the location of the girl’s body prior to sentencing in exchange for a minimum 35-year sentence for second-degree murder. Adam Montgomery did not look up from the table in front of him and did not respond to the inquiry in any way, neither verbally or physically. Furthermore, there were muffled sobs heard in the gallery.

The Step-Mother

The prosecution said that he made up a fabrication about what had occurred to Harmony. Stating, Adam physically assaulted Kayla Montgomery (Harmony’s stepmother) to get her to tell the narrative. According to court documents and a parole hearing, Kayla Montgomery entered a guilty plea in 2022. During which, she lied to a grand jury about where she was when her stepdaughter was last seen.

In February, she gave a testimony against her divorced husband, and in March, she was given parole. Prosecutors contended in the sentencing letter that Montgomery’s “extensive” criminal history. Which includes shooting a person in the face during a robbery. Also, he threatened a teenager with a knife should be taken into account when determining his sentence.
