Illegal Procedures Lead to Devastating Results
Getting a liposuction is a very serious procedure. Any individual who wants to obtain it has to be very well informed and consider everything about it. Such as information about the side effects, consequences, results and endless possibilities. Recently, cases have come about the fatal and harming consequences after undergoing these types of cosmetic procedures. One case in specific that ended tragically, is the one of a woman who ends up dead after undergoing an illegal liposuction procedure allegedly. The fact, that she decided to take this route and that the medical procedure was illegal makes matters worse, health wise. Performing such a serious procedure illegally, definitely jeopardizes the health of individuals extremely.
Now in terms of this case in particular, she is a 35-year-old Everett woman who got this specific medical procedure at a Somerville home in Massachusetts. According to the Middlesex District Attorney’s (DA) office, they confirmed on Monday, May 13, that there was actually two women who got very similar medical procedures in the same location, illegally. One being the 35-year-old. She was transported to Cambridge Health Alliance Everett, where she was unfortunately pronounced dead. About the other woman there is not a lot of information, but it is known that they both went to the same place and had really negative results. She was taken to a hospital in Boston and is in critical condition.
GoFundMe for the Victim’s Final Wish

A little more about the 35-year-old is that her name was Nicole “Nikki” Sandoval. She was the mother of two young girls, ages, three and five. Now, her family is raising money to make her final wish come true. That was for her ashes be spread on beaches in Miami. For this to happen they set up a GoFundMe fundraiser with a goal of $20,000. They currently have more than $3,200.
However, the exact cause of death of Sandoval is still undetermined. But one thing is for sure, she passed away right after the liposuction. In the fundraiser page she is described as “a charismatic, ambitious, hardworking woman who was taken from us too soon.” It is truly very tragic that the family is currently facing this situation because Sandoval’s procedure location decision led her to her end.
Case Under Investigation
Currently, police are investigating the potential link between these particular illegal liposuction operations. Not to mention, neighbors in Somerville and Everett noted that there was a large amount of police officers during the investigation on Friday morning on May 10. According to Middlesex District Attorney, Marian Ryan, she confirmed that authorities are investigating about how the illegal liposuction procedure ended the life of this woman and the hospitalization of the other Somerville woman.
Also a neighbor of the Central Street home in Somerville shared a photo of investigators going through a trash bag filled with bloody gauze and tubes on Friday. It is an image that is very triggering and scary. Even Sandra Lopez, a nearby neighbor expressed her thoughts on this case. She said the following,
That is just the scariest. Literally insane. I couldn’t even fathom doing something like that in your own living room.
Furthermore, there were many comments similar to this. Paige, another neighbor said,
I feel really bad. Really shameful for exploiting and taking advantage of people who just want to feel good at the end of the day.
Unfortunately, according to detectives, they have not yet identified the people who conducted these illegal procedures. Nor confirmed if they had or have any kind of medical expertise or licenses to do these procedures. Especially after their illegal liposuction procedure in a Somerville home ended the life of a woman.
Cheaper Options Eventually Cost More, Sometimes Even Life
Dr. Scot Bradley Glasberg, president of the Plastic Surgery Foundation, also expressed his concerns and worries about “at-home” cosmetic procedures. He made various comments about this some of the most outstanding ones that society needs to learn and keep in mind about are the following,
I think that alarm bells should go off when you hear that someone is asking you to come to their home and have a procedure done. That is so far from the norm that it should really raise a red flag.
People should go to board-certified doctors for these procedures.
You want to go to an accredited facility because patient safety is not just dependent on the person that’s going to operate on you, it’s also dependent upon the facility in which you’re going to undergo that procedure.
Individuals are drawn to a cheaper surgery and into an environment that may seem more convenient. The sad and unfortunate reality is that we do hear these stories way more than we ever want to hear them.
Overall, the case of the Everett woman’s cause of death is still in progress and the investigation into the details of the alleged liposuction is still ongoing. Cases like these truly bring awareness to be cautious and alert to knowledgably choose and go to places where experts are licensed and legal. City officials and investigators are asking that anyone with information about the incidents to contact Somerville police at 617-625-1600 or Massachusetts State Police detectives at 781-897-6600, the DA’s office said.
