Is the city about to kick out its migrants? Chicago labeled itself as a safe place for migrants, yet in their greatest time of need, it seems Brandon Johnson will be kicking them out. Originally, Mayor Johnson set up a 60 day asylum for the migrants. However, the winter storm last week required him to extend the time to February first. Furthermore, after this date, according to the city of Chicago, they will not be providing housing or renting property for them either.
The Progressive Lie
Additionally, Brandon Johnson was supposed to be the progressive candidate that would build bridges. Progressive mayors don’t make safety temporary for those who need it the most. Additionally, it shouldn’t have taken a winter storm to extend their time in Chicago. Where could they possibly go if other sanctuary cities are evicting migrants as well? Furthermore, the city will invest hundreds of millions of dollars to fund police pensions and salaries, but refuses to help essentially homeless people for more than two months.

“The evictions have twice been delayed due to snows storms and single-digit temperatures, but according to city data, nearly 3,000 migrants could be pushed out of shelters within the first couple days of the policy taking effect. But it’s unclear whether those individuals and families will have anywhere to go, and as more Latin American migrants are bused into Chicago from Texas, open shelter beds aren’t expected to stay empty long,” according to WTTW.
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility
The migrant “crisis” is only a crisis because Chicago refuses to do more than the bare minimum for a truly worthy cause. The migrants currently trying their best to survive, deserve empathy and compassion. It doesn’t matter that it costs a million dollars a day if it means that people are safe from harm. This is a moment for the city officials to realize that short term profits matter less than the humanity of all who reside in Chicago.
