I am Jamarion Thomas and I was born and raised in Chicago/Oak Park. I stayed with my mom in the North Lawndale area until I got to middle school.
After I moved with my dad to go to a better school and stay in a better environment. Although this desensitized me a little, I still understand and relate to the problems my people go through. I went to primary school at Herzl Elementary, middle school at Kipp Academy, and graduated from Muchin College Prep.
I never liked school, but I kept good grades because of my fast learning skills. Growing up, my favorite hobby was always drawing and I like to call myself an artist. Seeing graffiti throughout the city always inspires me. With art, I want to be able to change lives in and out of my community. I want to be able to help the less fortunate, whether it’s giving a little or a lot.
By the way, I’m an intern at The News School.
