Undergone Gun Fire
Three Idaho corrections officers had been escorting the dangerous inmate from a hospital visit last Wednesday morning when they had been ambushed by gunfire. Skylar Meade — the inmate the manhunt was for — had received treatment and was on his way back when Nicholas Umphenour fired at them. Both suspects had fled from the scene after the officers has undergone fire.
Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar noted that Meade is a member of a white supremacist prison gang — the Aryan Knights. Painfully, two of the three officers had been shot, one of them has life-threatening injuries, while they other survived.
Other Information at Bay
In 2016, Meade was arrested for aggravated assault on a law enforcement with a firearm. As well as several other prior convictions. Things like, felony possession of a controlled substance and grand theft auto. Prior to this shooting, he was scheduled to be released in 2036.
Police have issued a $2 million bond for Umphenour’s arrest on two charges of aggravated battery against law enforcement, as well as one charge of aiding and abetting an escape. Officials are saying that the issues started Tuesday night when Meade had started to engage in self-harming issues.
He was evaluated by our on-site medical, they made the determination that he need to be transported off site for emergent care.
He was in the hospital until 2:08 EST (6:08 GMT.) The hospital is about three miles west of the state capital’s downtown area, and less than 50 miles east of the Oregon state line.
More Official Statements
“Saint Alphonsus wasn’t necessarily targeted in this situation. It had happened to be where Mr. Meade was being treated,” Winegar said.
We do not believe there is any danger there at this point for anyone who may need to respond for treatment, or for appointments or anything else on that campus.
Although, officials are saying that prison escapes are rare, but there is currently a manhunt out for him. “The overwhelming majority of individuals that escape are recaptured, and they are typically captured in a very short time after their escape,” Mellow said.
Who is the Man who Helped Inmate Meades escape?
Umphenour has been described as 5 foot 11 inches, 160 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Along with a photo provided by the department shows his head either bald or shaved. Officials have said that he is an associate of Meades, but have refused to release his age or if he has a criminal history.
“This brazen, vicious, and apparently coordinated attack on Idaho Department of Corrections personnel, to facilitate an escape of a dangerous inmate,” Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar said in a news release.
Had been carried out right in front of the emergency department, where people come for medical help, often in the direst circumstances.
The manhunt for the Idaho inmate who escaped continues. There are multiple officers in the hospital after being shot. Unfortunately, going on a manhunt for an inmate who managed to escape takes manpower and time. Everyone prays for the officers in the hospital and that the manhunt for the Idaho inmate comes to an end. It is always scary when an inmate escapes and a manhunt is at bay.
Manhunt Ends for Escaped Inmate
A day after the inmate escaped via shootout at a hospital, he and his two accomplices have been captured. Authorities located Meade and Umphenour in the Twin Falls area around 2 p.m. local time, Thursday following a 36-hour manhunt. Both men were apprehended following a brief car chase.
Prior to the chase, both men had been staying in a home in Filer, Idaho. Upon police finding them, they fled the residence in two separate vehicles. Furthermore, Tonia Huber, 52, of Filer, is being charged with harboring a fugitive and possession of a controlled substance. Additionally, she drove more than 100 mph through neighborhoods in Twin Falls to try to help Meade escape before finally stopping in a store parking lot, stated prosecutors.
