Migrant Crisis in Chicago
The migrant crisis in Chicago continues to overwhelm politicians in the City of Chicago, as there are very limited resources that they can offer. However, there are several areas that have opened their doors to migrants to seek shelter. These shelters also provide food and water for these migrants.
Additionally, new buildings to further support migrants, and house them in the future, are coming to light. However, only the migrants themselves know what happens behind closed doors. All it takes is for them to speak out about the injustices that they have faced. This is exactly what had occurred at a West Side Police Station.
What Are The Allegations?
These allegations that have stood out occurred in a West Side police station. Additionally, the allegations are of sexual misconduct between officers the migrants seeking asylum. Therefore, it lead the migrants to seek shelter elsewhere, as they were afraid of something like this happening to them.
This is something that they should not have to worry about in the first place. They are already living a harsh life, as they have had to leave their old life to find a new one. There have been several allegations in the recent months, that have pointed to more than one officer that had sexual contact with the migrants that were sleeping in those stations. Being that it has been several months since these investigations have launched, may signal that an answer may be derived within the near future.
This Station Began Housing Migrants Once Again
It seems that not many knew that this police station began housing asylum seekers once again. However, this is the case, as was recently discovered. “City officials quietly began housing asylum seekers at two local police stations again this week that had been cleared out amid sexual misconduct allegations against police officers,” according to Block Club Chicago.
This investigation is still ongoing, and despite it still being an allegation, it is unknown if it will be proven within the near future. If so, that will certainly change the outlook of this police station as a whole. However, many are hoping that this allegation turns out to be false. Chicagoans seeing police officers commit such horrible acts would be incredibly detrimental. The trust in the police force would surely diminish even more than it already has.
How is the Outcome Looking So Far In This Allegation?
It seems that there is no evidence that points to these officers having committed the crime. This is why it is still a pending allegation, as investigation tactics continue. “There is no validity to the complaints,” said John Catanzara, president of the FOP. “There is no basis or origin of where it originated from. We don’t have a victim’s name or anything, or victims repeatedly, multiple at this point. Who knows if it’s even true?”
Therefore, with such a lack of evidence, there is nothing that prevents the West Side station from re-opening its doors to migrants. Additionally, if this turns out to be a false allegation, they will continue to provide services to these migrants that seek shelter.
Future of These Allegations
There is a hope that these allegations turn up to be false. However, it is unknown what the future of this allegation may hold for the City of Chicago. If this allegation turns out to be a truthful allegation, then surely this west side station may close permanently. Additionally, the officers involved will surely generate charges against themselves after having committed such a horrifying crime. Finally, as the investigation surely comes to a close, finding assistance for these migrants is surely of importance.
