Mom Project launched the RISE initiative that will provide 10,000 technology certificate scholarships to women of color (WOC) over the next three years.
Chicago-based Mom Project created a not-for-profit organization to tackle the “dramatic backslide in workplace equality due to COVID-19.” RISE offers WOC the chance to earn a certificate to increase their earning potential.
Depending on the source. as of September 2020, Black women are paid 62-66 cents compared to a white man’s dollar. Moreover, they are two times as likely as white men to be furloughed or unemployed during the pandemic.
The certificate programs include — Salesforce Administrator, Google IT Support, or Microsoft Learn. Women can work on their certification while they continue to work and provide for their families
RISE initiative objective:
Is a scholarship program committed to accelerating equity for moms of color, providing access to upskill certifications while harnessing the power of community, support, and job placement — all in as little as three months and at no cost to participants!
Mom Project is partnering with technology upskilling providers to give candidates one-on-one support from maneuvering the curriculum to searching for jobs once they have finished their training. The project is also offering mentoring and pro bono coaching through their RALLY and Unity programs.
