NBA Cup Creation
The National Basketball Association officially revealed the new season tournament and NBA Cup, on Saturday afternoon. The Cup is a trophy which teams will win in the NBA2K24 Summer League. The event is the culmination of a vision that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has had for years to bring a Champions League-style tournament to the league.
“It’s a concept that’s been around in league offices for about 15 years,” Silver said during a special “NBA Today” episode of “NBA Con” as part of the league’s annual gathering in Las Vegas. “We think it’s a perfect opportunity for a global league like the NBA and it fits our game perfectly”.
“New traditions take time. But everywhere in sports, we see new innovations and good timing for this season’s NBA. Silver said.
To create the groups, the NBA used a World Cup-style lottery process. Dividing each conference into five separate groups based on last year’s regular season standings.
Groups of the Cup Creation

Group 1 includes the first through third-placed teams – so, in the East, the Bucks, Celtics, and 76ers. Followed by teams 4-6 in Group 2 (Cavaliers, Knicks and Nets). Additionally, teams 7-9 enter Group 3 (Hawks, Heat, Raptors). Teams 10-12 enter Group 4 (Bulls, Pacers, and Wizards); and teams 13-15 enter Group 5 (Magic, Hornets and Pistons). After that, the league intends to have three groups of clubs that are evenly balanced to compete against one another. One team was chosen at random from each of the five pots.
The group play phase of the event will consist of four games. Pitting one against each of the other, four teams in each group, will compete. Each of the games will be played on seven different nights in November. These dates fall on November 3, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, and 28 this year. Which combines to make four Fridays and three Tuesdays.
The NBA’s Executive Vice President of Basketball Strategy and Analytics, Evan Wasch, was a driving force behind the development of the in-season tournament. Furthermore, he stated that the organization will make every effort to have back-to-back features, as part of a minimal amount of the team games.
How it will Work
Even though the 2023–24 NBA season only started last week, teams will have the opportunity to win prizes earlier in the season rather than waiting until the Finals in June.
At the present time the, NBA debuted a brand-new In-Season Tournament this season. The tournament’s name is probably still being worked out. But it will have a group round followed by a knockout round, with the semifinals and final taking place in Las Vegas.
The quarterfinals, which will take place on December 4 and 5, will be played at the home arena of the two teams in each conference with the best group stage records. The knockout games will all be single elimination. The wild card team will be hosted by the team with the best record in each conference. By the time at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will host the semifinals and championship games for the NBA.
Will the teams make the Event?

As Victor Wembanyama jogged onto the court on Friday night The fans who had packed the Thomas & Mack Center stood in unison It didn’t matter that the game was pointless or that most of the players on the roster were idealists whose dreams would never come true. They stood in recognition of this historic occasion — the 7-foot-4, first-round selection making his NBA debut.
It was a spectacle when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar entered the arena ahead of kickoff to meet the young man who has the potential to be the next big man in the NBA. Wembanyama faltered, appearing more like a cautious 19-year-old than anything approaching a completed work.
But, it was an undeniable success, giving the NBA a reason to draw attention to its product in the middle of the summer, regardless of how Wembanyama performed.
