Tragedy Strikes
A tragedy occurred recently when a shooting happened in a Kansas City parade killing one person and injuring about 21 people. This happened at a victory parade for the Super Bowl Chief’s win. It was estimated that about a million people were bound to show up to this Super Bowl parade. The people that went to the parade were at the Union Station to get autographs from the players at the Super Bowl rally. At this time shots were fired. During this shooting, one person, Lisa Lopez-Galvan unfortunately passed away. The exact number of victims from this shooting was not immediately clear. However, it is estimated for the number to be between 21 victims of this crime. Police found three suspects of the crime in a garage near the Union Station and were then taken into police custody.
However, according to the Kansas City Fire Department, eight of the 21 victims were said to be in critical life-threatening condition, seven others had serious injuries, and six had minor injuries. “We see people running and we hear gunshots and we take off running. And we look over and there’s a guy next to us on the ground,” said by a witness of the shooting, Jennifer Wilbers. Police officials have not identified the two suspects so far. According to the Kansas Police Department, this crime was just criminal in nature and it is unlikely for this tragedy to be caused by terrorism. All the football players and staff were left unharmed.

Condolences to The Victim’s Family
Some players spoke out about the event on social media. Some of the ones who spoke out were quarterback Patrick Mahomes, linebacker Drue Tranquill and guard Trey Smith. They all prayed for the Kansas City victims of this terrible shooting and showed their support. Despite there being about eight hundred police officers at the parade, the shooters did not hold back.
“State and local law enforcement were prepared, they had a plan, and they ran towards danger when presented, undoubtedly saving lives. As we wait to learn more, our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of this senseless violence.” said Kansas City, Missouri’s Governor, Mike Parson. Police officers have yet to find a motive for this crime. Police made sure everyone involved had left the scene safely and are working hard to bring the victims justice.
