Allegations concerning a police officer having intimate contact with a migrant in the 10th district.
A police officer is accused of having sexual contact with an underage female migrant, according to Andrea Kersten, the COPA Chief Administrator. She also mentioned the possibility of other officers being involved.
additionally, she stated: “We have not identified any individual migrant claiming to be a victim of any sexual contact by a member of the CPD.”
On July 6th, a city employee reported an accusation regarding a police officer from the 10th district.
What COPA has been doing to help?
COPA did a news conference to provide an update on the situation due to the outstanding public scrutiny.
Once COPA received the allegations, migrants were quickly relocated to the jurisdiction of Alderwoman Monique Scott.
Kersten stated that over a dozen investigators from COPA, most of whom speak Spanish, are currently addressing the matter.
Furthermore, the investigators collaborated with DCFS, CPD, OEMC, and various community advocates to reach out to a larger number of migrants within the community.
Kersten also stated the allegation at the 10th and now the 19th district is the only one that has any possible sexual misconduct.
FOP and a few aldermen doubt the allegations due to the absence of any victims or proof.
Mayor Brandon Johnson said, “We are going to wait and see what COPA uncovers and what data they provide us before we make any statement on the next steps.”
Investigation
The investigation into allegations involving officers from the 10th and 19th districts is ongoing. If you have any information, please contact COPA.
The Chicago police have not yet disclosed the identities of the police officers who are currently under investigation, nor have they provided any details regarding the length of their service as members of the force.
As we wait for more information on the story, everything indicates an incorrect accusation.
If the claim is false, then the COPA has to apologize for the potential fear, worried and anxious migrants.
