Police executed a search warrant on a home in connection to the murder of Tupac Shakur. The late rapper’s case has seemingly been dormant for nearly 30 years.
Life of a Legend
Born Lesane Parish Crooks on June 16, 1971, in East Harlem, Manhattan, New York. Growing up, Tupac primarily spent his time in Harlem. His family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1984, where he became good friends with Jada Pinkett Smith. Four years later, his family moved to Oakland, California.
Tupac Shakur’s first breakthrough in the music industry came in 1991 after he joined the group Digital Underground. That same year, he gained individual recognition for his album “2Pacalypse Now.” However, the album was also the start of his notoriety as a leading figure in the gangster transformation of hip-hop.
The following year, he began his movie career in “Juice” and then alongside Janet Jackson in “Poetic Justice” in 1993.
Stints in Jail
Tupac Shakur spent 15 days in jail for assault and battery in 1994. A year later, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a female fan. He was released eight months later.
The charismatic rapper was gunned down in a drive-by shooting outside a hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. After fighting for his life for six days, Tupac succumbed to his wounds and died on Sept. 13, 1996.
Rumors
Soon after his death, people began to report seeing the infamous celebrity. Theorists believe he hadn’t actually died that day, but instead assumed a new identity. However, they, like the ones who claim Elvis Presley is still alive, are believed to be idealistic fans.
Not much information is known as to why the Las Vegas police search a home, nearly 27 years after Tupac’s death. However, they did release a brief admission that the search had taken place.
“LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation. We will have no further comment at this time,” Las Vegas Police said in a statement.
This leaves many to wonder if the rapper’s cold case will finally be laid to rest.
