Authorities reported that Salvador Ramos, a student at Uvalde High Uvalde High

In September 2021, Salvador Ramos asked his sister to buy him a gun. According to Steve McCraw, the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, she firmly declined his request.

According to McCraw, Ramos talked about being a school shooter in a four-person Instagram group chat.

Ramos posted on Instagram, “10 more days.” A user commented, “Are you planning something dangerous?” Ramos replied, “No. Stop asking silly questions. You’ll find out soon enough.”

According to McCraw during a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Ramos moved in with his 66-year-old grandmother, Celia.

Ramos connected with “Cece” on the social media app Yubo, where he sent her several messages on the day of the shooting, she told ABC News.

Cece claimed that, in retrospect, there were additional warning signs, such as Ramos asking others on Yubo if they wanted to become famous by appearing on the news.

According to McCraw, Ramos purchased a semi-automatic rifle from a local sporting goods store named Oasis Outback

According to McCraw, Ramos bought 375 rounds of ammunition  his rifle inside of the school. However, the source of this ammunition remains unknown.

An Instagram account that law enforcement sources have linked to Ramos reportedly sent a photo of a gun lying on a bed to another user on the platform, according to direct messages shared with ABC News by the recipient.

According to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s press conference, Ramos is said to have had three one-on-one conversations with Cece on Facebook. In the initial message, he allegedly threatened to shoot his grandmother.

In a subsequent message, Ramos reportedly claimed he had already shot his grandmother. The third message indicated he planned to target an elementary school, though he did not specify which one, according to Abbott.

It is not believed that Cece saw the messages until after the shooting had taken place.

According to McCraw, Ramos shot his 66-year-old grandmother in the head at their home before fleeing the scene. Despite her injuries, she managed to run across the street and call the police. She was then transported to the hospital by helicopter and has survived.

The Crime Details

According to The Associated Press and confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety to ABC News, a teacher at Robb Elementary School was transporting food from her parked car to the classroom when she saw a car crash. She ran inside to get her phone, using a rock to keep the door propped open.

McCraw, Ramos crashes his vehicle into a ravine near Robb Elementary School. He exits from the passenger side carrying a Daniel Defense AR-15-style assault rifle. Ramos was also wearing a backpack with ammunition and tactical gear, including a vest designed to hold ammo, but he was not equipped with any armor or fabric for protection against gunfire.

Ramos enters Robb Elementary through the west entrance. Surveillance video shows a boy exiting the bathroom, noticing the gunman in the hallway, and then fleeing the scene.

12:10 p.m.: The initial 911 caller returns to report multiple fatalities in the classroom, McCraw states.

Final Moments in the School

Eventually after the exchange of bullets from the mass shooter and the police, Ramos was shot dead.

Escalon said the officers then swiftly begin a “rescue operation.”

The 19 students, a vibrant mix of fashion enthusiasts, artists, basketball and softball players, dancers, and TikTok creators, were full of promise. Alongside them were two seasoned educators, celebrated for their dedication and who had collectively taught local children for forty years.

One boy had a cherished routine of brewing coffee for his grandparents each morning. One girl dreamed of becoming a marine biologist. Another teacher had been happily married to her high school sweetheart for 24 years.

As summer vacation approached, their lives were tragically cut short on Tuesday by a gunman at Robb Elementary School in the predominantly Latino town of Uvalde.

These are the 21 lives that were lost.

In the wake of the tragedy, family members shared photos and memories of their loved ones who were lost. They reflected on the big dreams they had and the simple joys that brought them happiness
