Over the past weekend in Major League Baseball MLB there was a huge contract signing involving one of the best sports athletes in the world. Shohei Ohtani signed a new baseball contract for $700 million, breaking the record for the biggest contract of any athlete in MLB. He is only 29 years old, with a lot of success already to his name.
Now, he moves on to a new baseball team, going up the road from the Los Angeles Angels, joining the National League West’s most stacked team. The Los Angeles Dodgers capitalized on giving him a change of scenery while making history once again.
Ohtani made history as a two time American League (AL) Most Valuable Player MVP, with three years of being a MLB All-star in his six years for the Angels. Designated Hitter (DH), and pitching is what the new Dodgers signee specializes in and a few of the positions he will play on his new team.
Dodgers sign AL MVP
Ohtani’s signed a 10 year $700 Million contract with the LA Dodgers in hopes to win another World Series. The team recently signed 2021 World Series MVP Freddie Freeman, away from the Atlanta Braves, to a contract to join Mookie Betts and Clayton Kershaw. Ohtani signing with the Dodgers for $700 million changes the playing field with a loaded roster.

Every year the dodgers will have to pay at least almost $70 million per year. The AL MVP recently underwent surgery that will restrict him from doing double duty until the 2025 MLB season. Angels All-star Mike Trout played with Ohtani for six years without having a playoff appearance despite them having some of the most amazing stats as teammates.
Trout signed what is now the second most largest contract in MLB history behind only his former teammate. It will be an interesting season as the Dodgers enjoy bringing in some well needed help. With Ohtani joining a powerhouse like the Dodgers his intentions of winning for the next 10 years.
