As COVID-19 cases continue to surge, many performers are revising how they hold concerts — in some cases if they will hold concerts. Among this list of famous talents is Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks. The singer states that because of her age and the continued rise in cases’ she is canceling all performances. It is unclear if the legend will return to the stage in 2022, but at the moment it seems that this will depend on whether the pandemic has improved.
Vaccinations and Headliners
Furthermore, Nicks stated that despite being vaccinated, she wants to be extremely careful because her age places her at risk for COVID-19. The singer is 73 years old and although she is healthy, it is important to be safe. Many of the festivals she was scheduled to perform at are continuing without Nick’s presence. In fact, the BottleRock festival has already replaced Nicks with the country singer, Chris Stapleton, who is now set as the headliner. The singer had a total of five performances’ scheduled.

Should Performers Cancel Their Concerts?
On the other hand, performers dropping concerts due to the pandemic could cause some fans to become outraged. Everyone has spent the past year and a half indoors and it can be heartbreaking to hear that your favorite act is not showing up for a scheduled performance.
While the news may be nonetheless devastating, it is a lot more admirable to cancel a performance for the safety of not only oneself but also for others. For this reason, if performers want to experience large crowds of fans, they should be doing exactly what Nicks is doing. Performers should encourage their fans to get vaccinated and wear masks in order to avoid creating superspreader events.
