Being an upcoming adult can be very stressful. Whether it is looking for work, schools, or friends.
Through developing stages, teens can become overwhelmed by the expectations of parents. At 18 most teens are forced into schools or jobs. Immediately having to make major life decisions. On top of dealing with nagging from parents.
Main causes of stress
Sometimes with little to no help parents expect teens to find a job. This process can cause frustration because of rejection and/or delay. when applying for jobs most teens will never hear back or are rejected because of little work experience, forcing teens into jobs they don’t enjoy. For example, fast food places, manual labor, etc.
Some might ask how an 18-year-old gains work experience. experience can be gained through normal jobs or internships. However, internships aren’t very common so teens would be forced into fast food work as it is one of the few that require no experience.
This can lead to the entrapment of young minds. As this is the first job teens work in some might never strive for more or may believe they can’t get a better job.
Working Fast food jobs can be very toxic when dealing with customers or coworkers. Possibly meaning lots of stress for teens. In a survey conducted by Katelyn Gendron 79.2% of students are said to have work stress and 28.8% have six times in the last month.
For those working while attending school, work stress can be amplified due to other stressors such as school work or vice versa. As a result of juggling responsibilities.
Relationships
While developing teens will go through the best and worst relationships. Attempting to stay focused while having many friends can be very difficult. Friends can cause more tension, arguments, or sometimes insecurities.
With many friends, it can be challenging to stay on the right track. Friends can be a bad influence dragging others into bad habits. It can be a big hassle having friends that drag others into their mess.
relationships with parents can be impacted also. Many parents won’t believe their kid is having mental issues because “they’re just a kid.” This leads teens to grow apart from their parents and become more resentful.
Romantic relationships could be a main factor of stress in teens. If someone is in a unhealthy relationship it will be hard to focus on other things. Some would stop everything just to make their partner happy, only causing more problems.
How to Help a Teen Dealing with Stress
Learning to recognize factors of mental issues can play a big role in supporting teens. Spending time with your kid and participating in activities will show your kid you are there for them even though they don’t accept it.
Listening to your kid’s problems will always help. Sometimes people just need someone they feel safe around to vent to. Seeing they have someone supportive most will instantly feel a little better which will lead to less worry overall.
How to Deal with Stress as a Teen
One of the best ways to relax is by taking a walk through your neighborhood. If you are having little doubts a quick stroll can change a lot. on this walk, you should take the time to self-reflect and think of ways to better your mindset.
Having a supportive figure can also help a lot. whether it is a friend, family member, or therapist having someone to talk to will always make you feel better. The simple concept of “getting this off my chest” is very helpful.
