A Couple of Teens Accused of Stealing around the Chicagoland Area

Chicago police announced recently that both girls will be facing criminal charges for stealing thousands of dollars worth of items from a variety of retail stores around the city. Both girls have been identified to be a 12-year-old and a 17-year-old. Their names have been withheld because they are both juveniles.

Furthermore, both girls were arrested on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, in the 4500 block of North Broadway. Surprisingly, they were detained just a block away from a store they allegedly hit three separate times since Monday of this week.

Locations where they Committed the Robberies

As mentioned previously, both teens committed their robberies in several locations around Chicago. More specifically, they were accused of entering half a dozen retail stores at the following areas and the following days, ranging from November 15 to February 8:

  • 4400 block of North Broadway on February 5, 7th, and 8th.
  • 3200 block of North Clark on November 15 and on January 10 and 23th.
  • 600 block of North LaSalle on January 26 and on February 2.
  • 500 block of West Webster on January 26.
  • 3300 block of North Ashland on January 24.
  • 1600 block of West Division on January 10.

According to police they have stated that the 12 year old girl was also charged in connection with a Jan. 21 stealing at a small business located at 1100 block of West Jackson. Meanwhile, while the 17 year old girl was also charged in connection with a Jan. 18 robbery in the 1600 block of West Division.

Moreover, in terms of the charges that each girl got they are pretty extensive for all that they committed and for the amounts worth of items that they took over for. On one hand, the 12 year old is charged with eight counts of retail theft of merchandise over $300 and four misdemeanor counts of retail theft of merchandise under $300.

On the other hand, the 17 year old is charged with seven felony counts of retail theft of merchandise over $300, four misdemeanor counts of retail theft of merchandise under $300. Also, she was charged with one felony count of robbery.

This shows how they were aware of what they were doing and kept on doing it because they were getting the hang of doing this illegal activity. It is really upsetting that such young girls got involved with the legal system this way, and that they were taking advantage of it.

Be Aware

Robberies like these keep occurring and they are increasing. It’s very unfortunate that a lot of the thieves are getting away with this. It’s incredible that this pair of girls managed to commit several felonies, and get to the point of stealing thousands of dollars worth of items. The neighborhoods that they stole from are:

  • North Side.
  • Lakeview.
  • Lincoln Park.
  • Wicker Park.
  • Uptown.

Overall, it’s very important that everyone is careful and keeps an eye out when people commit this type of crime or any other and call 911 if suspicious activity is noticeable. The reason being because there are a lot of people out there that are not considerate and do whatever it takes to get what they want no matter the cost.
